I agree he shoots well in rhythm, and in the past he has shot from too far out. But most of his minutes have been in mop up duty. (has he ever been in the rotation? ) Mop up duty is even less relevant than summer league IMO. Players coming off the bench for 90 seconds jack up shots as soon as they touch it. Those stats people keep referring to are a joke.

So what I want to know is how he would play when he is the 3rd or 4th option and he is left open? Maybe he plays better? Maybe he runs the court and finished on fast breaks, and maybe he makes the wide open 3, and maybe he finishes on alley-oop passes. Inquiring minds want to know........

I think his skill set may translate to the regular season, especially in a Terry Stotts' system. Terry himself said in the SL interview that (and I am paraphrasing) he knows Jake can shoot, he shows it in practice. But that it is hard for players to come in cold off the bench and shoot well with inconsistent mop up minutes. That's has always seemed logical to me.

I have the opposite view. I think his lateral movement is really good, especially defensively. I’ve had that stance since he’s been in the league. What I don’t like is how he attempts to block shots. It’s this weird swipe motion that has never and probably will never work. It’s almost as bad as Meyers’ strategy of closing his eyes and praying.

But other than that there are a lot of tools there that remind me of why I was intrigued by him in the first place. It really just comes down to that shot of his. If he can develop any sort of consistency, he’s going to be a pretty good player.

Call me skeptical of someone who shoots 40% for one season (hey remember when Evan turner lit it up
    From 3 too?

Iggy is below average... numbers don’t lie. Being elite in other areas doesn’t take your 3pt shooting to the next level. Iggy also willingly took a pay cut to chase championships - he also gets WIDEEEEE open shots as he is the only GSW who can’t shoot...

I mean you’re pretty intelligent from what I’ve read of yours. You know The scouting report on Iggy and you know he can’t shoot

Jake either catches and shoots, or gives it back to a guard. I'm guessing his job in summer league is to do just that, and establish his catch and shoot game.

I heard it said today that, whoever would have thought that GS would win 3 championships (almost 4) and turn into the dynasty they are, back in 2012-13.
That franchise was less than mediocre for years.

I suppose you're right. Draymond changed things drastically for them...but so did trading CJ, I mean, Monte Ellis. Just saying...

I thought the most surprising thing was when I realized they didn't need David Lee at all...

Just reading old draft stuff about Layman and Fran Fraschilla said Layman would’ve been a lottery pick had he told people he was from Croatia lol.

Anyways I’m back on the wagon, maybe out of desperation. We need him to take a jump. The potential is there. He’s got everything you would want in a small forward. Everything but consistency. If he found it this year, it would change the trajectory of the Blazers.

Just for fun, where would you rank Layman’s athleticism on the team? I don’t mean track athleticism. I mean on court athleticism.

I might rank him ahead of Harkless. I think he’s got better lateral movement, especially with the ball in his hands.
