[IMG][IMG][IMG]
Game Four - Sunday April 29th
Starters:Dallas Mavericks:[IMG]PG - Jason Terry - Playoff Stats - 19.7 ppgDon Nelson took a gamble to start the series that if he was going to be beaten he'd have to be beaten by Terry, Howard, and Harris, not Dirk. And thus far, that has happened in one out of three games. Terry needs to make the Warriors work as he's one of the only Mavs with the athleticism to do that. But overall, he needs to continue to score 20 points per game if Dirk can't get his act together.[IMG]SG - Devin Harris - Playoff Stats - 14-4Importance - Devin Harris needs to keep out of foul trouble and make the Warriors pay for doubling Dirk. He's the cryptonite to the Warriors' schemes as he picks apart their doubling strategy with speed comparable to Monta Ellis, but he can't do it if he's going to only be staying in 26 minutes per game due to foul trouble. When Harris is on the court the Mavericks are +15 points per 100 possessions, and when he's off....they're off. He needs to stay on the court to be that third weapon, because the Mavericks can't keep up offensively when the shooting guard and center positions are both non-factors.[IMG]SF - Josh Howard - Playoff Stats - 21-11-3Importance - What I said before game three is still valid: "Obviously Josh Howard is going to get his points with Dirk doubled, but he needs to get more than "his points". Josh Howard needs to step up even more on the offensive end if they want to weather the storm in game three. Defensively, he needs to keep doing what he's doing, with four steals per game and being effective against Baron's passing lanes". He's the best thing the Mavs have going for them, unfortunately he's not good enough to be the best thing a first seed has going for them.[IMG]PF - Dirk Nowitzki - Playoff Stats - 19-10-2-2 on 38% shooting.Importance - A third straight mediocre at best game by the "MVP". If Kobe were in this situation he'd score 60 points in game 4. If Nash were in this situation he'd get 24-14 in game 4 and the suns would blow the other team out. If Wade were in this situation he'd have come back in game three. Dirk needs to prove his superstar intangibles and go berserk in the next game.[IMG]C - Erick Dampier - Playoff Stats - 9.7 minutes per game.Importance - He needs to start playing well. Well enough to not be playing under ten minutes per game. That's all I can think of at this point, I think the only reason he's even starting is because avery felt pressure.Coming off The Bench:[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Jerry Stackhouse - SG - Came up huge wednesday with 17-8, but has played subpar the rest of the series. He needs to be a fourth guy who can take a little pressure off of dirk.Devean George - SG - He needs to start being a three point spot up option like he used to be for the lakers, otherwise when he's in the game they're playing 3 on 4.Desagana Diop - C - After two games was perhaps the most important player to the team, with a playoff roland rating of +34. After game three, that rating dropped to +14. Diop only played 15 minutes, and couldn't do well during them. He needs to prevent the Mavericks from being outrebounded again; there is no excuse for being outrebounded by a team that plays matt barnes as center for a stretch.Greg Buckner - Just needs to be a competent option and guard Baron when need be, much like Devean George.Austin Croshere - Doesn't deserve a picture here, but if he can come in and play 20 minutes and do what he did yesterday that would be a nice booster for the mavericks.Rounding out the Keys for Dallas:After game 2 I said the keys for dallas were "Defense. Defense. And more defense." But they are playing pretty decent defense, playing all three games closer to their pace than the Warriors' pace (except game three, but that's because blowouts don't allow the pace to balance out in the fourth quarter, it was a happy medium the rest of the game) and keeping a 37% three point shooting team, who shoots the most threes in the league, to 27% shooting. They've got Harrington and Monta trammelled, and even forced the Warriors to start Biedrins. What they need to do is not shoot 38% from the field. According to binomial distribution and their experimental probability during the regular season, the mavericks had a 1/588 chance of shooting 38% in 2 games out of three. In other words, if you played this series 100 times you'd have a chance of that happening in maybe one of those series'. They need to find other options to score besides Dirk if he continues this way.X Factor - Dirk. If for no other reason than that the "mvp" should be the X Factor for his team and they can't afford him to play badly on Sunday. He needs to put up true MVP numbers, and prove that he can score on this type of double team. If Dirk scores under 25 points again the Mavericks are gonna have a tough time winning.[IMG]"My grandma said if I got kicked out again she'd whoop me"[IMG]I know Cuban, it is unnerving to sit in an arena of 20,700 and have them all unanimously chanting that you suck.[IMG]"Zey are playink zeir mad man mind games."[IMG]"Come'on Jerry, getting technical fouls is a team effort"[IMG]"He has powers Comparable, TO WONDERBOY" - Sportscenter guyStarters:Golden State Warriors:[IMG]PG - Baron Davis - 23-3.5-5-2.3Importance - It appears that he has the ability to help us win without getting 10 assists per game, and there is also strong evidence that assists aren't given out as much in the playoffs, so just keep doing what you're doing man.[IMG]SG - Monta Ellis - 13.7 ppgImportance - Had a decent game three. Still room for improvement. Just play your game and keep on getting Harris in foul trouble, you're a better version of Harris.[IMG]SF - Jason Richardson - 19-8Importance - I knew the points would come, what I'm impressed with is the rebounding. If he and S-Jax can keep rebounding like real forwards this series is over.[IMG]PF - Stephen Jackson - 23-5-4Importance - Continuing his great play, with a minor first half blip. Once again, continue the great rebounding of game three and it'll all be peaches and gravy.[IMG]C - Andris Biedrins - 5-4Importance - I'm not a big fan of his, but he did his job right in game three, getting 10 points and 10 boards on 80% shooting. If he can reciprocate this I'll be happy, as long as he doesn't play more than 25 minutes.Coming off The Bench:[IMG][IMG][IMG]Matt Barnes - SF - I liked how he used his six fouls in a smart way and played smart defense. All he needs is to shoot a higher percentage now.Michael Pietrus - SF - What I said last game applies to his whole career: "Needs to stop being an idiot, though I understand that would require a different brain, and stop getting into foul trouble."Al Harrington - C - Needs to find his rhythm. He's totally psyched out. He's shooting 20% from the field (normally 46%), 0% from the three point line (normally 43%) and 60% from the line (normally 70%). He needs to keep rebounding like he is, and hopefully he can make his way back into the starting lineup.X Factor:Al Harrington - What I said last game still applies: "Needs to come up big and keep pushing the pace and forcing the mavs to keep their bigs out, and to keep driving and driving constantly, they're not quick enough to keep up with him."Key Matchup:Al Harrington vs. Desagana DiopI still think this is the matchup that will decide the game, barring a spectacular performance by Dirk, Diop and Harrington can, either one of them, make their team win by a landslide. Whichever one does will be the winner.Prediction:Warriors over Mavericks: 106-98I believe. I believe that this Warriors team can and will beat the Mavericks and the Mavericks haven't shown anything to disprove that. It'll be a very close game that the Warriors make a three or two in the closing minutes to make the final score look wider than it is.

It's mandatory that Mavericks win this game. I dont see them winning 3 games in a row aginst a team they can't even keep up with. That just seems too much to ask for.Motivation would be nice

I don't want to give up on the mavs, and I'm not saying that it wont happen, but if they lose game 4, I believe it will be over. I don't think that they have the ability to beat the warriors 3 in a row. :no1:

The Warriors remind me of the Lakers of the early 2000's. Other teams could beat them, but the Mavs struggle and don't match up well against them. It seems like teams have also learned how to defend Dirk..... Just put a smaller player on him and they will get to him and really bother him. IE: Bruce Bowen, Udonis Haslem, and Stephen Jackson.

Wow, Dirk said that if they lose this the season's over. I realize it's for motivation to win this, but that's pretty stupid to say. If the Warriors win this they'll win in 5 now, imo.

The fans are amazing, Warriors are fun as hell to watch, underdog could go up 3-1 on a 67 win #1 seed....and Jessica Alba is in attendance!!!!!!

I usually watch Entourage and never miss it no matter what, but this game is to good to miss. I'm rooting for the underdog like I usually do, LETS GO WARRIORS!Edit: Warriors are coming out and shooting horrible. The pace is really slow, too. Baron Davis has 2 fouls also. Not a good beginning for the Warriors.

[IMG] Jax putting a little extra (yet unnecessary) flavor into that pass, but Golden State is gaining some momentum right now. Hopefully that pass can get Jackson going a little bit too, because he has been pretty quiet offensively. I'm glad Dallas came out in much better fashion than they did in Game 3, but they are letting the lead slip away right now. They need to finish this 1st half off with the momentum shifted their way.

Ugh, here Baron goes with the jawing to the refs again. Of course, he's allowed to do it, because they're the underdogs. The underdogs are allowed to do anything. We've been calm and composed this whole series, but if we made any complaints like GS is doing, I'm sure we'd here the "Blah blah the Mavs are a bunch of whiners blah blah."I'm surprised we aren't down by about ten. Devean George gets bumped in the back, it goes out of bounds, and of course it's not a foul on them, it's out on us. Then GS makes an illegal substitution, but the refs give them a freebie and go against the rules. Fair. Then there's the foul on Harris for rubbing against Harrington. Pretty unbelievable.edit: Bunch of jackasses.

My god. Baron with the craziest shot ever. If that doesn't get us back into the game I don't know what will.

That was a great shot by Davis; a great momentum-gainer heading into the half. Dallas has been playing better for the most part so GS really has some work to do if they want to win the game. They have to start off the 2nd half, fast.

What a way to close out the half by Golden State! Baron, wow. The energy is electric in that building. This series is great.

Another note, from the halftime show:

QUOTE

Charles: "Golden State, the city, sucks."
    Ernie: "It's not a city."
Kenny: "Ernie, just let him go..."

We played a horrible half as well, right now I'm watching in live TV instead of Tivo so, I'm actually keeping up. If we can start running in the 3rd quarter and Dirk keeps on sucking more dick than Jenna Jameson, the game is ours.

Positive, were not losing. I find it funny how this thread has turned into a pro Warriors though.
