Good to see El Prez fired up about something that doesn't involve burning things down.

Bourdain was somewhat of a hero to me, so i'm going to shit on this whore like she was flying to Dubai on some Saudi oil money.

...like I said, he's been talking about suicide for nearly 20 years...whether her perceived infidelity is what pushed him over the edge is debatable...he was obviously a weak minded individual.

If you have a boner. Is it really rape?
Hilarious that some in this thread basically used that.

awkward day when I actually agree with @EL PRESIDENTE

A lot of the content of this thread is disturbing and disappointing, and is evocative of much of the reason that males rarely report rapes.

    Couldn't agree more.

These same people would never say.
If you're wet, is it really rape?

I think we're missing the bigger picture here. Because she was part of the #MeToo movement, and did something equally wrong, we men are scott free to act this way again!

    Let the pillaging begin!

...the issue in this case is not rape by force or under what situations a male might get a boner, it's about statutory rape.

Obviously the "whole" thread wasn't. Read my words for what they say, not for what you think they say. :bgrin:

    ...amazing, isn't it?

...and that's the problem with googling. If someone tries hard enough they can do a search and find some obscure tidbit to bolster their agenda/narrative...whether it has merit or not.

I don't think it's fair to say this discussion has made light of rape...in my case it's questioned the circumstances...to discuss this issue and be sensitive to the possibilities it's important to point out the extenuating circumstances of the age of the young man and the relationship he had with her....make no mistake...she's guilty of breaking the statutory rape law of California...the drunk cougar doesn't get a pass but rape victims taking large sums of hush money raise questions...I see nothing wrong with addressing those points...if anyone is offended by my personal recollections...that's on them but as I've said...when I read the story I tried to put myself in this guy's shoes at that age and certain things didn't add up to non consensual rape....even with the law as it stands...this case is not your standard no means no rape case from what I've read and if it was....why take the buyout and still have a positive relationship with the lady? Where were the parents? This kid was wealthy and had access to top notch legal council...these topics are fair game for discussion....I'll say one thing...I now do not believe that Asia is credible to speak for the #metoo movement..in fact, she's just boosted Weinstein's defense case.maybe the guy is traumatized for all these years and she killed his career...I'm as open to that being a reality as I am to him this long after the fact taking her to task when the money ran out....as to Bourdain...he took the coward's path in my view...I don't buy that this actress ruined his life...he had options...if anything, alcohol and depression ruined his life...

from what I've read very few rapes across the board are ever reported....and most rape victims want nothing to do with their abuser....which was not the case with this incident..they've maintained a friendship. How many rape victims continue to profess love for their rapist?

...what's the difference between he and his wife "drifting apart" vs he and his GF "drifting apart"?

...you're trying way too hard and are letting your personal bias interfere with rational thought.

He sure didn't stick around much....my point is infidelity is something he should be able to handle given his age and experiences and travels....I'd say booze was the biggest factor in his suicide, not some actress he was sleepin' with...he made a choice as an adult with friends and options to cope..he didn't cope..that's his own cowardice...I don't see Bourdain as the victim here. His child is the real victim...she has to live with his suicide for the rest of her life.
