<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In an interview with ESPN during Friday's game in New Jersey between the Nets and Warriors, David Stern was asked how he felt about the 8th seed Warriors defeating the top-seeded Mavericks. "They were never supposed to," said Stern. "The four out of seven was supposed to make sure that the better team won."</div>http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/459...prevent_upsets/I don't get it.. :no1: So if you're a 5 seed or lower you're in a system set up for you to fail..
Why would Stern say something like this? I don't get it. He should be happy, this upset is the only thing giving the NBA press right now.
People who watched the game know he didn't mean in that way. He meant it like nobody gave them a chance, the odds were against them, they weren't supposed to win.
and people wonder why every says the game is rigged. comments like that just add fuel for the conspiracy theorist.

Don't blow this out of proportion, his comments weren't alarming by any means. Yes, he's right... Dallas was supposed to win. The #1 team in the NBA is supposed to get out of the 1st round. He didn't mean it like "My damn refs didn't rig this so Dallas would win, I don't know why." This is nothing.

Dallas was obvioulsy SUPPOSED to win. They were the best team in the league all season long, and the number one seed, they obviously were supposed to beat an 8 seed. That's what he's saying.

Stern meant it like that because a team like GS can half ass there way trhough a season, and if they ddint get a sh*t ass seeding, they wouldnt have to work in the playoffs as well. Which is why the NBA has that seeding system.
Tell me why this is a big deal? The best of 7 first round series was implemented so that you wouldn't have upsets like this, so that the higher ranked team would win.Why is this a big deal?
I interpreted those comments a different way. I took them as a slap in the face of the Warriors. Hell, the better team DID win that series. The playoffs and a playoff series aren't about regular season records. Those records mean jack sh*t in the playoffs. It doesn't matter if Dallas won 67 games... those 67 wins came against every team EXCEPT Golden State. The playoffs are about match-ups, and Dallas did not match-up with Golden State. The Warriors were the better team in that match-up, and they won. Simple as that.

He was very praising of the Warriors and there was really no other answer to the question he was asked.

I get what Stern is saying... and to an extent.... he is right. The higher seed is expected to win. Especially the best team we have seen in a while over the #8 seed.
