It makes it interesting because ownership would probably prefer the young players/draft picks. They’re usually better assets, especially since I can’t see any team, let alone Portland, give up a CJ type for a guy that may walk in a year. If push came to shove, I could see Thibs walk away from the job as well.
Could you imagine if he then decided to resign and coach in the big 3? Every single coach is mic'd up in that league. Oh god.
According to multiple league sources, coach Tom Thibodeau has no intention of letting Butler go for young, rebuilding-type pieces. Seems to mean he wants guys ready to play now. CJ? Or does he want guys like Turner or Harkless? Or Turner and CJ and get rid of Dieng; that seems most likely. To make that work financially (and I think Thibs would really like this) we add Aminu and they add Gibson. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ybg6pbmg
Agree that the Battle w/ Seattle has always been our #1 rival, for sure. I said "big time divisional rival" I didn't say #1 rival.
AD would still be the best player on the court, Mirotic is still shooting threes like a madman and our supporting cast is still atrocious. You bring up points that i kinda agree with, but our problems goes way deeper than freaking CJ McCollum.
If Minnesota’s ownership gives Thibs full control of this trade, we have a shot. He loves Turner. That’s on record. Harkless and Aminu seem to fit the Thibs mold as well. Collins too.
And also: Trump can sense a sexual harassment suit coming faster than Stotts can feel a momentum swing coming.
It'll never happen. But the funny thing is. Gettingpicks and role players back for Butler and returning to KAT & AW as their key kogs. Would prolly be the best move for them. It remains to be seen how far those two can take Minn. Both are extremely young.
So if Thibs is what's standing in the way, why not include HIM in the trade? Butler & Thibs for Turner & Stotts!
Fuck that. I don't want Thibbs anywhere near the Blazers. Hell to the fucking no. People complained about Sarge. Do you really want someone who is Sarge 2.0? I mean shit Thibbs has even more short rotations and gives less lee-way for mistakes than Sarge did. Stotts > Thibbs
Yes, AD would still be AD, but if we had Butler, no way does Jrue Holiday go off for 33 in Game 2 and 41 in Game 4. His previous career playoff high was 26 and he AVERAGED 27.8 ppg against us. Put Butler on him and Holiday is likely much closer to his season average of 19.o ppg, maybe less since Bulter is one of the top perimeter defenders in the league. Plus, as mentioned with Butler attacking the rim. Davis would not have been able to double team Dame out on the perimeter with abandon. That would have freed Dame to be Dame. So yeah, NOP would have still had the best player on the court, but we would have had the 2nd and 3rd best. As it was, NOP had the 1st and 2nd best and that's why they swept us. It wasn't that C.J, played poorly. He didn't. The biggest problem is we didn't have anyone who could make NOP pay for doubling Dame with Davis 25 feet from the basket on almost every possession - that and our inability to stop Holiday on the other end. Davis is a superstar, He's going to get his no matter what. The problem is our superstar didn't look like a superstar with the constant double teams from Davis and Holiday, while our defense allowed Holiday to look like a superstar on the other end. BNM
The team with the worst won-loss percentage in the history of the league isn't "big time" anything. Seriously, they have won less than 29% of their games against us. That a rival, not even a small time one, does not make. BNM
This is the trade I want to see go down. CJ -> Butler Meyers -> Dieng I've been a fan of this one for a long while now.
A trade that makes sense for both sides is: Caldwell-Pope + Lonzo Ball + Josh Hart for Butler BECAUSE: all three of the Lakers are good defenders, a real need for Minny. Hart and KCP are also Thibs players. And the Lakers might be ready to move on from the Ball circus, while a move to Minny might do him good (especially if his Dad doesn't follow.) Meanwhile, even if Butler doesn't stay with the Lakers at the end of the year, they're one of the few teams where the cap space he'll leave will almost be as valuable as him. HOWEVER: KCP is the problem: he can't be traded at all for a while, and even when he's tradeable, I believe he has a no-trade clause because he has a one year deal.
True - but you got to start somewhere. It's much easier to replace CJ's net impact on a game (offense + defense) than to get someone as good as Butler.
