They might have had the venom removed...etc...so the snake was not lethal, they know more about those snakes than we do....different culture....to us this looks deadly serious....might not have been.
In the comments it says that the fangs have been taken out of the snake or whatever. I actually feel more sorry for the snake then the kid.
