No. 5 Michigan routs Penn State 42-7, wins 8th game in row

No. 5 Michigan wanted to do more than just beat No. 14 Penn State.

The Wolverines wanted to win big, getting revenge after getting routed and humiliated against the Nittany Lions last year.

    Michigan got what it wanted.

Shea Patterson accounted for three touchdowns and the Wolverines put together a dominant performance on defense in a 42-7 rout against Penn State on Saturday.

Evans' field goal sends Purdue past No. 19 Iowa 38-36

Purdue kicker Spencer Evans waited impatiently for a second chance.

When the opportunity finally arrived Saturday, he was ready, willing and spot on.

The senior made a 25-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to give Purdue a 38-36 upset over No. 19 Iowa, helping the surging Boilermakers move within one game of becoming bowl-eligible and back into contention for the Big Ten's West Division crown.

McSorley matches wins mark, No. 21 Penn State tops Wisconsin

Trace McSorley and Penn State went back to a familiar formula Saturday -- a steady diet of elusive Miles Sanders.

The resurgent running game put the Nittany Lions offense back on track, and got McSorley a milestone victory, too.

Sanders ran for 159 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, McSorley matched Todd Blackledge's program record with his 29th win at quarterback and No. 21 Penn State beat Wisconsin 22-10.

No. 8 Ohio State pins No. 24 Michigan State back, 26-6

Drue Chrisman's first punt of the day was an embarrassment, a 4-yarder at the end of Ohio State's first possession.

"I don't know where it ranks in Ohio State's worst punts in history, but it was definitely my worst punt," Chrisman said. "I was just like, `Man, I've got to ball after this one."

Chrisman made up for that early blooper, keeping Michigan State pinned back with a sensational second half of punting. Eighth-ranked Ohio State pulled away for a 26-6 victory over the 24th-ranked Spartans on Saturday, largely because of what Chrisman did to Michigan State's field position.

No. 9 Ohio State survives in OT, beating Maryland 52-51

Relentlessly zipping up and down the field, ninth-ranked Ohio State and upstart Maryland were racking up yards and points at a dizzying pace.

Finally, the Terrapins were presented with the chance to end it -- one way or another.

A gutsy decision by Maryland interim coach Matt Canada did not achieve the desired results, and the Buckeyes avoided one of the most stunning upsets in this college football season by squeezing out a 52-51 victory in overtime on Saturday.

McSorley throws 2 TDs, No. 16 Penn State D dominates in win

Trace McSorley became the winningest quarterback in Penn State history with a lot of help from his friends.

McSorley threw two touchdown passes to tight end Pat Freiermuth and No. 16 Penn State's defense set up two touchdowns with turnovers in a 20-7 victory over Rutgers on Saturday, sending the Scarlet Knights to their 10th straight loss.

Northwestern stays in stride with 24-14 win at Minnesota

When he was an assistant at Northern Illinois, Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck once cold-called Pat Fitzgerald for a lunch meeting to learn about being a head coach.

A decade later, Fitzgerald and his Northwestern Wildcats are still teaching teams like the Gophers how to win in the Big Ten.

Isaiah Bowser rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 24 Northwestern turned three turnovers by Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan into 10 points on the way to a 24-14 victory on Saturday that stretched its program-record road winning streak to eight games.

Buckeye blitz: No. 10 Ohio State blows out No. 4 Michigan

This season for Ohio State has been anything but normal, beginning with its celebrated coach suspended for three games.

There have been spotty performances and troubling trends on both sides of the ball. There has been constant speculation and questions about Urban Meyer's health and future.

After all that, it was business as usual against Michigan, and now the Buckeyes are right where they always expect to be.

Dwayne Haskins threw five touchdown passes , freshman Chris Olavehad a breakout performance and No. 10 Ohio State continued its mastery over No. 4 Michigan with a record-setting 62-39 victory Saturday that sends the Buckeyes to the Big Ten championship game.

Thorson helps No. 20 Northwestern beats Illinois 24-16

With nothing really to play for, and with the Big Ten championship game looming next weekend, Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald decided to pull many of his starters in the second half Saturday against rival Illinois.

Fitzgerald stuck with the plan in spite of unexpected tense moments down the stretch.

Clayton Thorson accounted for three touchdowns, Isaiah Browser rushed for 166 yards on 18 carries and No. 20 Northwestern beat Illinois 24-16 for its seventh straight Big Ten win.

McSorley helps No. 15 Penn State rout Maryland 38-3

Just before he ran out of the Beaver Stadium tunnel for the last time, Trace McSorley gathered his teammates and made a promise he probably didn't have to make.

"I just said, `I promise you guys that I'm going to leave everything out there today," McSorley said following No. 15 Penn State's 38-3 victory over Maryland on Saturday.

Ohio State pulls away from Wildcats to win Big Ten crown

Dwayne Haskins and Urban Meyer reveled in the victory celebration Saturday night.

Now the College Football Playoff selection committee gets to decide whether the Big Ten champions will continue dancing through the next six weeks.

Shortly after Haskins made his case to win the Heisman Trophy by throwing five more touchdown passes, the Buckeyes defense fended off a second half charge from No. 21 Northwestern and Meyer put his hands on a third conference championship trophy in five years as the conversation quickly turned to the more immediate fate of No. 6 Ohio State.

"This means representing the Big Ten Conference, arguably the best conference in college football, and the East Division, arguably the best division in college football," Meyer said as the lobbying began after a 45-24 victory. "I think all you have to do is look is at the body of work. We went on the road and won some tough games -- TCU, Penn State and Michigan State. The way we played against our rival (Michigan) and the way we played tonight, I think we deserve a shot."

Minnesota runs past Georgia Tech 34-10 in Quick Lane Bowl

Mohamed Ibrahim took full advantage of holes his teammates created to burst through the line or get to the outside.

And when defenders were in Ibrahim's way, he simply lowered his shoulder to run over them.

Ibrahim ran for career-high 224 yards and two touchdowns, leading Minnesota to a 34-10 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday night in the Quick Lane Bowl.

Taylor runs for 205 yards in Wisconsin's Pinstripe victory

Jonathan Taylor played tour guide for his Wisconsin teammates who had never visited New York. They hit the usual landmarks with trips to Lincoln Center and Times Square. Taylor even gave his buds a taste of the luxe life with a window-shopping jaunt along Fifth Avenue.

"It's real fun to see those guys looking at all those sights," said Taylor, a New Jersey native. "New York has a lot to offer."

Taylor gave the Badgers one more dazzling sight to see, and the nation's leading rusher heads home with his own sweet souvenir -- an MVP trophy.

Taylor ran for 205 yards and a touchdown and topped the 2,000-yard season mark to help Wisconsin rout Miami 35-3 in a chilly Pinstripe Bowl on Thursday night.

Ohio State tops Washington 28-23 in Meyer's Rose Bowl finale

Urban Meyer says he decided to end his remarkable coaching career at Ohio State partly because of the stress inherent in this high-intensity job.

After his Buckeyes blew most of a 25-point lead in the fourth quarter and had to recover a last-minute onside kick to win the Rose Bowl, anybody could understand why this 54-year-old coach can't wait to retire.

But the stress is over. Meyer is going out at the top of his profession. And for the first time, he is a Rose Bowl champion.

Dwayne Haskins passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns, and Meyer headed into retirement with a 28-23 victory after the fifth-ranked Buckeyes held off No. 9 Washington's thrilling comeback in the 105th Rose Bowl on Tuesday.

Harbaugh: Comment about Meyer not 'bombshell'

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh stood by comments made Thursday in which he said controversy has followed former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer "everywhere he's been."

"I don't think it was anything that was new, or anything of a bombshell," Harbaugh said during Day 2 of Big Ten media days on Friday. "It's things that you all understand and have written about."

Wisconsin WR Cephus ruled eligible to play

Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus, recently reinstated to the university and the team after being acquitted of sexual assault charges, will be eligible to play this season for the Badgers.

Cephus tweeted the eligibility update and Wisconsin confirmed it to ESPN.

Cephus returned to practice earlier this week, but his eligibility remained in doubt because of a lack of academic credits relating to his expulsion from the university this spring for violating its nonacademic misconduct code.
