At worst we waive Baldwin who likely isnt in any plans here anyway... Start Melo at the 4 with Aminu at the 3. If it doesnt work out waive him, nothing really lost.

    ...except games.

Honestly, what about the start of this season makes people want to mess with the chemistry and rotation by bringing in an over-the-hill, non-defending, non-winning black-hole who obviously won't be happy unless he's a major part of the offense? He didn't work out with Westbrook and George. He didn't work out with Harden and Paul. Why would he work with Dame, CJ and Nurk?

Is everyone in on some kind of joke that I don't know about? Because I can't believe any rational human being would want this.

I believe at this point the only reason you get melo is if it's to please Dame. Like if Dame says to NO I want to play with Melo if we can do that, than I'd say go for it.

This Blazer team has great chemistry. They are FAMILY. Don't mess with a good thing.

Another positive Melo would bring is an ability to get to the line, something Portland doesn’t really do that well. The last year and so Melo hasn’t gotten to the line as much but I think that’s more a product of the offenses he’s been in where he’s been turned into a spot up shooter. But this is a guy who on average has gotten to the line more than anybody on our roster and is a year and change removed from averaging about 5 trips, which would place him second behind Dame. Thats something that would help in the playoffs.

The last time this team made it to the WCF, we were the Jail Blazers. I don't give a shit about image as long as we win.

It's not image, it's chemistry. This team has it.

You can have all the chemistry in the world, but talent in the NBA matters.

Melo is looking like an old mule. Just don't see the value.

Considering the source (Woj) I’m guessing this includes Olshey/Portland lol. We also have a full roster.

Jakes minutes/role probably wouldn’t even be effected. Personally I think he’s earned a look at a bigger role but I also wouldn’t mind adding Melo. Starting off 10-3 is great, but that doesn’t mean Neil shouldn’t be out there trying to improve the roster. For me, Melo, or at least the theoretical ceiling of Melo, is an improvement. It’s worth the relatively minimal risk.

Feels a lot like when we added Detlef Shrempf. It looked good on paper, but didn't work out so hot in the real world. If we signed him, I'd be really curious to see him play. But if you are on a bad run since 2014, you aren't on a bad run. You suck.

How did OKC extract any value out of Melo? Schroeder has been great, esp with Westbrook hurt

Not enough chemistry to beat golden state. Time to throw a hail Mary.

He hasn't accept it the other 2 places why would you think he would accept here. Melo wants to be a starter not a bench player.

Only way would be to make it a condition of signing him. "Understand, Mr. Anthony, that our starting lineup is already quite effective, and we have no interest in altering it. As such, we would like to bring you in specifically for a reserve role. We have more invested in Jake Layman than in you, and you will not be usurping the minutes he's already receiving. If you would like the opportunity to be a part of this team, you will need to accept a reduced role to fit in here."

Spell it out for him very clearly in advance, make sure he knows that if he's here, he's nothing special, and that at the first sign of discontent with that role, he's out. If he's willing to come here with those expectations pre-defined, then you give him a shot.
