If it was the Al Davis 1970's Raiders no problem. But if it's Mark Davis letting the Blond Napoleon, Blow-it-Apart..... I'll reconsider.

I'm hoping for Oregon so the whole state is involved.

    Not sure about your numbers?
The Lobbyist at this point is Jason Atkinson but there might be another hired recently i know nothing about?
They have put down earnest of 5 million
They have spend 30K on lobbying Portland
But in the end i agree. I know way too many people working on this already and there are too many reputable names involved.

Until people try to shorten it. Pioneers is 3 syllables. People always shorten 3 syllables names. The Pie's ? The Neers? The Pyros?

No this was some big time woman with major influence. They were talking about here on Primetime last week. It might not be official yet.

    Found it: Martha Pellegrino

    My favorites:

    Oregon Ospreys

    - Rolls off the tongue well, and "Ospreys" just sounds like a baseball team name. Common predatory bird in Oregon. Sounds professional yet fresh.

    Oregon Oddballs
    - Makes too much sense, reflective of how "Weird" we are. Unique. Could also be seen as some sort of baseball pun.

I didn't see this post before coming to this as my favorite name as well. I'd put an S on the end though. Oregon Ospreys. Perfect.

Honestly, I have a gut feeling that's what the name would be.

What is the fascination with matching the first letters?

Portland doesn't have to be penguins. Pythons, etc. It could be Sea lions or Something else that doesn't start with a P

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Osprey is plural for Osprey. @theprunetang is our resident bird expert though, maybe he knows.

That has been my name preference since I first started thinking of team names, but I doubt it will get chosen.

It will probably be something dumb like Portland Public Servants.

Technically, it actually is Ospreys. But, I am not a fan of the "s" at the end. Also, as a note, another colloquial term for Osprey is Sea Hawk. So..... that's kind of a thing already......

Ps. An Osprey is neither a hawk or an eagle.

Theres many different bird names in different sports.. Its not the same name and its not the same sport, so I dont think that the "Seahawks" and "Ospreys" are an issue. Most people dont know they're the same thing.

Imo, the S on the end is better than without

Refreshing this one--has an animal name that is relevant to the area, but also the name of a local native tribe (you'd want to get them on board), is not alliterative (for those who dislike the kitschy-ness of that), and the initials would be P.C., which seems particularly applicable to Portland.

It rolls off the tongue a little nicer and it's neater. If the name makes sense then alliteration adds a little more to it.

I'm not against the name. I like it. Just boy my favorite from those I have heard. Much better than shit like Reign though.

You already know my chosen name for the team, so I don't really need to repeat myself.

Random thought--"osprey" can be pronounced "os-pree" or "os-pray". Would the likely pronunciation confusion amongst the national media be more likely to bother or amuse you?
