We were so hyped up about that summer and the big free agents we were going to sign for so long, lol.
Just imagined if we decided to take on an expiring contract to save another team money (I don't remember a specific case, but it happens almost every summer, think last summer with Faried to BKN from DEN). Not only could we have gotten pick(s) as compensation, but we could've rolled that cap-space over to the next summer by not resigning Meyers, Crabbe, or Turner, and instead, had those expiring contracts and guys on one year deals that we signed (I bet Turner would've taken $18M for a year...) Would've been just as good and had cap space the next year after everyone blew their money on guys like Mozgov, Mahinmi, Deng, Biyombo, etc. Rinse and repeat if we couldn't sign someone who's actually good!!!.
Fair to say that the Daily Memphian's Geoff Calkins is not a fan of Parsons. https://www.dailymemphian.com/secti...-phony-but-ultimate-blame-lies-with-the-Grizz
Which one of y'all made that twitter? Neil dodged a massive bullet with that one. Also, why the hell would we want that entitled POS here? Let him redeem his career in one of the big markets.
How many games in the CBA did Gasol and Conley play when they returned from injury? How many were they even asked to?
I should have said overpaid Batum...I realize max deals are more than we paid him when we matched Minnie which in retrospect was a huge mistake. If Henderson or Vonleh were rotation players for us it wouldn't be so bad but they didn't stick
huh? Batum's 4yr, 46 mil contract with us was very commensurate of his production here. That wasn't the mistake. Trading him for what turned out to be nothing was. He's certainly not worth the 5 yr, 120 mil deal that CHA gave him however.
With Turner we went from a bad defensive team to a pretty good one...when we signed Turner it was for ball handling and defense...not scoring...when we share the ball as a team Turner fits fine...when we go ISO he doesn't.
I was a fan of Nico but he showed up about one game out of 5 so I think we overpaid him when we matched...good Nico was definitely worth it.
That's just flat out not true. Maybe rookie year Nic, but not the one who got that contract. Until his last season with us, he was damn good. He contributed massively to that season we won 54 games.
I don't know what other deals were on the table for Nico, but at this point I would take nothing over having his horrible contract on our books. That's why I was never against trading him in the first place.
c'mon man.....Turner doesn't do shit for Portland's defense * in 2015-16, when it was a combination of Aminu, Harkless, and Gerald Henderson at SF, Portland was 20th in the NBA in defensive rating at 108.0. That's also when Ed Davis was healthy and effective all year * in 2016-17, when Aminu moved full-time to PF (but missed 21 games), it was Harkless and Turner at SF. Portland was 24th in defensive rating at 110.8. Not only did Aminu miss 21 games, Ed Davis was rarely healthy that year. * the next season, 2017-18, was when Portland made the big jump in defense finishing 8th at 106.4. That was due mostly to Nurkic but once again, Ed Davis was healthy now, this season, Portland has fallen back down to 15th at 110.0. But Meyers is taking most of the minutes Ed Davis gets and that's almost certainly a big reason Portland's defense has suffered. Another is that Napier and Connaughton were better defenders then are Curry & Stauskas. And another reason is that Harkless was MIA to start the season and instead, Turner and Layman were taking his minutes this isn't all to say Turner is a bad defender. But it is a stretch to call him a good defender. As a SF, he ranks 62nd out of 84 in DRPM. Among 473 NBA players tracked Turner ranks 347th; the median is 236. Turner is an above average defender on the Portland roster. Among NBA players, not so much, and it's pretty clear he struggles guarding quickness
