Azubuike returns, No. 2 Kansas beats Eastern Michigan 87-63

Udoka Azubuike's return from injury couldn't have come at a more opportune time for Kansas. It couldn't have played out much better, either.

Azubuike scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds after an ankle sprain sidelined him for the last four games, leading No. 5 Kansas past Eastern Michigan 87-63 on Saturday in its final tune-up before Big 12 play.

No. 11 Texas Tech holds off West Virginia 62-59

No. 11 Texas Tech started the Big 12 season on a positive note.

    Jarrett Culver led the way.

Culver scored each of his 18 points in the second half, and Texas Tech overcame some early shooting troubles to beat West Virginia 62-59 in their conference opener Wednesday night.

No. 5 Kansas holds off No. 23 Oklahoma 70-63

The mantra at Kansas is "faces change, expectations don't."

Something else that doesn't change? Oklahoma losing in Allen Fieldhouse.

Dedric Lawson had 13 points and 15 rebounds, Kansas' young backcourt made enough crucial plays when it mattered, and the fifth-ranked Jayhawks began pursuit of their 15th consecutive Big 12 title by holding off the No. 23 Sooners 70-63 on Wednesday night.

    No. 11 Texas Tech beats K-State 63-57 for 2-0 Big 12 start

Davide Moretti made a handful of big offensive plays at opportune times, including a big personal run, to spark No. 11 Texas Tech in a matchup of two great defensive teams.

Moretti scored a career-high 19 points and Matt Mooney added 14 to give the Red Raiders enough of an edge to hold off Kansas State 63-57 on Saturday.

No. 7 Texas Tech rallies for 66-59 win over 23rd-ranked OU

Whenever Texas Tech needed a big play against Oklahoma, Jarrett Culver had plenty to offer.

Culver scored 23 points, grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and scored seven straight Texas Tech points to break a tie late in the second half, leading the No. 8 Red Raiders to a 66-59 win over 23rd-ranked Oklahoma on Tuesday night.

Mason 25 points as Baylor beats No. 20 Iowa State 73-70

Makai Mason is getting more aggressive on the floor for Baylor, wanting to take shots and chasing after loose balls.

Mason scored a season-high 25 points, including five free throws in the final 38 seconds, and the Bears held on for a 73-70 victory over No. 20 Iowa State on Tuesday night.

Lawson leads No. 7 Kansas past No. 25 TCU 77-68

Checking into a game for the first time for Kansas, freshman guard Ochai Agbaji prepared for a play that he'd only ever defended during practice.

Agbaji darted through TCU's defense, took a lob from Quentin Grimesand recorded his first collegiate basket.

"I told myself the best way to get rid of his nerves was give him an easy basket, and maybe something to energize the crowd a little bit," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "Because we've been so boring playing above the rim."

Agbaji, a Kansas City native, had seven points and four rebounds, Dedric Lawson recorded his 47th-career-double-double with 31 points and 14 rebounds and Lagerald Vick added 12 points and four assists as No. 7 Kansas defeated No. 25 TCU 77-68 on Wednesday night.

Vick 6 3s on birthday for No. 7 Kansas to beat Baylor 73-68

Lagerald Vick did on his 22nd birthday for No. 7 Kansas what he also does in so many other games. He made some big 3-pointers, even if the ending was a bit shaky.

Vick scored 18 points with six 3-pointers before a couple of late turnovers as the Jayhawks held on for a 73-68 win at Baylor on Saturday.

Barry Brown lifts Kansas State over No. 20 Iowa State 58-57

No. 20 Iowa State appeared to have done just enough to survive on a snowy and sleepy Saturday in Ames.

    Barry Brown had other ideas.

Brown hit a layup with four seconds left and Kansas State stunned Iowa State 58-57 on Saturday, handing the Cyclones their second straight loss.

No. 23 Oklahoma tops No. 25 TCU 76-74 on Doolittle's shot

Back from suspension and back in the swing of things, Kristian Doolittle delivered for No. 23 Oklahoma on Saturday.

Doolittle hit a runner with less than three seconds left to lift the Sooners over No. 25 TCU 76-74, the latest sign that the junior is back to the form that made him a budding standout as a freshman.

No. 7 Kansas holds on to beat Texas 80-78 at Phog

Marcus Garrett has earned his spot in the Kansas starting lineup primarily with his defense.

His offense Monday night was merely a bonus.

The sophomore forward poured in a career-high 20 points, used his defensive instincts to produce a crucial tie-up in the closing seconds, and helped the seventh-ranked Jayhawks hold on for an 80-78 win over the Longhorns when Jase Febres' 3-pointer at the buzzer never came close.

Brown and Wade lead Kansas State past No. 20 Oklahoma, 74-61

Kansas State guard Barry Brown didn't need any last-minute heroics this time.

After hitting game-winners in the final minute of the Wildcats' previous two games, he helped Kansas State control Oklahoma from start to finish. Brown scored 25 points as Kansas State beat the 20th-ranked Sooners 74-61 on Wednesday night.

Jermaine Haley's late layup sinks No. 7 Kansas

Kansas coach Bill Self left his postgame news conference, saw West Virginia's Bob Huggins down a hallway and stopped for a handshake.

"Go win the rest of them," Self said.

Wishful thinking, perhaps. But Huggins will gladly take this one over his friend in what has become a forgettable season.

Jermaine Haley hurried up the court and hit a layup with 8.5 seconds left, completing a late rally that lifted the Mountaineers over the No. 7 Jayhawks 65-64 on Saturday.

Baylor wins 73-62 to hand No. 8 Texas Tech 2nd loss in row

Freshman guard Jared Butler was a late arrival at Baylor. The top recruit originally chose Alabama and began last summer there, before he got his release, and a waiver to play somewhere else this season.

Butler is now starting and getting comfortable in the Big 12.

"He was fearless, played with courage, looked like he was having a lot of fun out there," Texas Tech coach Chris Beard said.

Butler scored 19 points, 14 of them after halftime, and had five assists with only one turnover as Baylor beat the No. 8 Red Raiders 73-62 on Saturday, handing Tech its second loss in four days.

Roach leads Texas over No. 20 Oklahoma 75-72

Texas senior guard Kerwin Roach II played like he had a lot to make up for.

    He did. And he delivered.

So did the Longhorns with a tough 75-72 win over rival No. 20 Oklahoma on Saturday night that keeps Texas near the top of the standings in what is looking like a wild season in the Big 12.

Lawson's double-double lifts No. 9 KU past No. 24 Cyclones

Kansas spent most of the first half Monday night chasing Iowa State all over the court, unable to keep up with the Cyclones' crisp ball movement and their resulting open shots.

Jayhawks coach Bill Self made a subtle tweak that changed everything.

Kansas began switching five on defense, and the stops fueled a 14-0 second-half charge that gave Self's team the lead. And unlike last weekend at West Virginia, the ninth-ranked Jayhawks made it stick down the stretch, holding on for an 80-76 victory over the No. 24 Cyclones.
