It's a strange thing to praise, but good on Quick for not pretending to have any insight into the front office's thinking on personnel moves. He could easily have speculated on a lot of that stuff, and he instead simply admitted he had no clue. I have to respect that.
Well Quick does say that he shouldn't be discussing that stuff with him. I do wish just one local guy could get comments from Olshey every once in awhile though.
Pretty sure the only media person getting anything from Olshey is Woj. The only local he’ll talk to is the one he can control; Brooke.
Agreed. I miss the coverage we use to get of the team. The Olshey,McGowan era sucks in this department. I honestly don’t feel as close to the team as I use to. Don’t get me wrong I love the blazers but it sucks not hearing anything for months at a time. Rumors are half the fun
I feel like the local media vs the Blazers has gotten old. Its like they’re all 5 years olds in communicating with each other.
Really nothing earth shattering here, but glad he's doing this sort of Q&A. I was a regular listener of his shows on OLive with Casey and Eric. Those were particularly insightful before twitter. However, not having any idea into our interests because of his (lack of a) relationship with Neil is one thing. But is he not in contact with agents and other reporters from outside Portland? I think our local media guys have given up in digging. Also, Meyers Leonard is not a good rebounder. Come on now
I was thinking the same thing. He doesn't have any connections with people who would know things? There isn't a single front office person or reporter that has moved on to another city that he can get some tidbits from? In today's world with social media and people getting instant information don't you almost have to be more of an investigative journalist?
This year he has a higher rebound rate per minute than Aminu and Collins and is second to Nurkic on the team. I wouldn't call that not a good rebounder, especially considering we are a very good rebounding team.
By even the most naiive examination of his play, Meyers is one of the worst rebounders I have ever seen. Fuck the stats on this one. Are people getting suckered by his flexing after he boxes out no one and gets a freebie?
His contested rebound percentage is fifth on the team at 33.5%. That’s not good for a center. Compare it to Nurk and Collins who are both well above 40%. Relatively speaking, Leonard is not a good rebounder.
The league also keeps track of box outs. Leonard grades out behind both Nurk and Collins. His offensive box out efficiency is SIXTH on the team, which is impressively awful.
The local media got what they deserved. They burned bridges one too many times. Trust me I love our "free press" but even during the uncivil age of the internet you still need to show some respect to those you cover, because their one and only recourse is not to talk to you. I always use the John Stockton example. The local press burned him early in his career and he barely spoke to them again in his very long career.
Actually I have. At the very first S2 get together for a game. They used to have a Mexican (?) restaurant right by the Rose Garden and I had a beer with him there. He seemed like a nice guy to me.
