Well, since A: The PDP has implied the owners are going to pay for it themselves, the bond shouldn't be an issue and B: Since I've never actually believed it was going to happen anyway, I'm not upset either way.

hm, I misread the article. Disregard A and put more emphasis on B. This town doesn't know a good thing when it's sitting right in their lap. Never has, and probably never will. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...at least now i don't have to waste 4-5 years waiting for a team to maybe show up.

Yep. It just feels like the city will get used now, as leverage for another team to get a better deal with their city. We need more bike lanes and areas we can let homeless squat anyways.

Eh. Pretty predictable really. Probably kills any outside interest in future sports investment here. Most will take note and stay away. The fact we actually have pro sports here came down to expansion at the perfect time in both leagues. Well. At least we got something.

It's weird, do they just not understand the old bill? Most likely they think they can somehow get that money to go towards something else. I really don't like political discussions but don't they have more pressing needs to focus on?

I hate our politicians. I really do. They all suck. Not a single good one.

A popular theory going around( heard about it today on Issac and Suke) is that some lobbyists in Hillsboro are spearheading this thing and using the Hops. They would severely be affected if Major League Baseball came to Portland.

In other words, it's a political agenda.

    Edit: Listened again and corrected.

That would be so Portland to kill a MLB team coming here because of a Short Season Class A Minor League Team.

Why would politicians advocate for derailing a billion dollar project for a SS Single A baseball team with a following smaller than your local 4 H club?

No seriously, the Hops aren't even a full time minor league operation. So what powerful lobby is going to pull favors with local politicians to kill a few multi-millionaires business interests? The local groupies that won't have any fresh meat to grind anymore?

If you know or have a more plausible theory I am sure we would love to hear it. Did you listen to the segment? I was paraphrasing so I am sure I didn't get it word for word correct. It is probably it's own clip on their site.

Well. There has got to be a ton of citizens shouting "NIMBY" at this project. Sponsoring a bill like this would probably curry a lot of favor with them. I can easily them using the Hops as a reason to prop up the bill though. A small semi-pro baseball team would probably bring a tear to their eyes the same way a food cart would.

I see it more as the Hillsboro peeps are happy with their Hops, and want to torpedo anything that might threaten them, so they're going to find ways to stir up dissent amongst other Oregonians solely because it might benefit them. The Portland "NIMBY's" are just pawns for the Hillsborans' agenda.

I live in cornelius, but spend most of my time in Hillsboro, and I havent heard a single person talk about the portland mlb team in person. I hear people talk about wanting a NHL team, an NFL team, and theres a lot of talk about sports.
Maybe they’re hoping if they never talk about it, it wont happen. All about the Hops!

The Hops are a well run organization. Probably the best single A stadium in the country.

Well, maybe the people who run the hops can bring an G-league team to Seattle.

You mean like the ever-growing fiscal disaster that is the unfunded PERS liability? Of course they do - but dealing with actual problems is hard.
