Lin and Ross aren't worth first round picks but they would improve the team. Lin and Prince combined are worth a first round pick for sure though.

I’ve been hearing Portland is going to be aggressive at the deadline for like two three years straight now. I remember couple years ago Stein said they’d be THE most active, then nothing significant happened, as usual.

Prince is the most realistic option because it probably won’t take a rotation player to get him. I’d be willing to bet that deal is there if we give up our pick.

I doubt Lowe's thoughts are based off anything from an actual source.

That's how I read it. I mean, if the first thing they talk about is Marc Gasol, and then quickly move off it after they realize that they had forgotten about Nurk, it suggests that they're just speculating with no basis in fact.

haven't we heard that before every trade deadline in the Olshey era. I mean, every single time, some reporter comes out and says Portland is being aggressive. Maybe this year will be different.

it might also be that there are wildly different definitions of 'aggressive'. To me aggressive would be shopping players like CJ and Zach instead of labeling them untouchable. It would be using 1st round picks as leverage for a much bigger trade or even as leverage for major cap relief, not just punting hard choices a year or two down the road. Aggressive would be remodeling the top end of the roster, not just tinkering with the 8 or 9 slots of the rotation

it's almost like the Blazer front office is planting stories that turn out to be nothing more than ass-covering. But that couldn't be

I think Olshey has stepped his game up. He figured out he doesn’t have to make any moves as long as he admits after the season is over that he probably should’ve made one. Then he goes back to doing nothing and life goes on and his yes men log onto the boards telling us to stop complaining. Because remember, were the bad guys here.

Olshey would NEVER do that..... :politician:

He loves the media (especially the local ones), and ALWAYS tells the truth to them.

Alright, jeez. We get it. It's been said before and we have to wait to see if they'll do anything this time. Was just passing on what I heard.

Man, this forum has gotten so cynical of late. A lot of that has to do with Neil/Terry/status quo.

    wut?

did you think anybody responding was gouging you for posting what Lowe said? I don't think anybody was. I think everybody recognizes the likely source and purpose for rumors like this

The perpetual cynicism is tiring. There are still people like me who get excited by rumors or hints of trades. Neil is a patronizing asshole who clearly doesn't understand this market, but there's very little else I can hope for with this team outside of a possible trade. Getting constantly told that any rumor/hint/etc is bogus is annoying. If we don't have even a bit of hope of improving this roster, there's no point in following this team.

Just because we don't make deals doesn't mean Olshey isn't attempting to do them. Its much better for us not to make a deal then make a crappy one just so people can feel like we are "doing" something when in reality its nothing.

what did you expect? Do you think you're the only one here who is hoping for a trade that either improves the team now or offers hope for improvement down the road? Everybody is hoping for something like that, but many have a hard time assigning any credibility to the exact same rumors we've heard before every trade deadline

this will be Olshey's 7th trade deadline. He's made two notable trades in the previous 6 seasons: one was the disaster of sending out Will Barton and a 1st for Afflalo. The other was the Nurkic trade when the primary motivation was to get out of Plumlee's RFA off-season and avoid tax exposure. And neither of the trades occurred when Portland was already over the tax line. And both happened when Paul Allen was alive

but we heard every year that Olshey was being aggressive. Every single damn year...and here we are again. We've also heard that Dame and CJ and Zach are all untouchable and it's safe to add Nurkic to that list. That really pares down trade assets when the negative value of Turner, Meyers, and Harkless are factored in. With the list of untouchable players and bad contracts, where is the options for aggression unless Olshey suddenly does something he hasn't in 7 years on the job?

I'm sorry, but the cynicism is justified and you should expect it to be expressed, even if it has been expressed before, over and over. There room for everybody...for those who want hope. And for those who want to piss & moan; I've got lots of those two and I'm a sharing kind of guy

The good old Houston way. Except Houston actually makes deals so I guess the only thing we have in common is the offering our trash for their best.
