Windy City Bulls Acquire Jakarr Sampson

The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, announced today that the team has acquired forward JaKarr Sampson. Earlier in the week the Windy City Bulls claimed guard Rodney Pryor and acquired forward V.J. Beachem from the Wisconsin Herd in a trade.

Sampson (6-8, 223), brings three seasons of NBA experience to the team. The 2013 Big East Rookie of the Year was signed to a Two-Way contract with the Sacramento Kings last season and appeared on the Chicago Bulls training camp roster earlier this year. Sampson averaged 17.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while with the Stockton Kings, NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings.

Pryor (6-5, 205) comes to Windy City with one year of experience in the NBA G League, having played with the Sioux Falls Skyforce last year. While with the Skyforce, Pryor averaged 10.2 points and 5.2 rebound per game in 24 games.

Beachem (6-8, 186) was acquired from the Wisconsin Herd in exchange for the returning rights of Aaron Thomas and Windy City's 2019 Second Round Pick of the 2019-20 NBA G League Draft. Beachem spent the 2017-18 season with the South Bay Lakers where he marked a career high 30 points against the Texas Legends. Beachem made his first appearance with Windy City on Wednesday when the team hosted the Grand Rapids Drive.

The Windy City Bulls have waived Karrington Ward, Matthew Fisher-Davis and Jameel McKay.

The Windy City Bulls return to action tonight on the road against the Capital City Go-Go. For up-to-date information and to purchase tickets, visit WindyCityBulls.com.

Offense was amiss at the start as the Bulls went scoreless for the opening two and half minutes before Lemon Jr. put them on the board with a driving layup. Following the slow start, Beachem and Hall scored the next 10 points for Windy City and the Bulls led 12-9 at the first media timeout. The BayHawks managed to tie the game at 14, but Windy City responded with a 9-2 run and took their largest lead of the first quarter at nine. Erie closed the quarter by scoring six of the final eight points, but the Bulls shot 46 percent in the period and led 27-22 at the end of the opening 12 minutes.

The second quarter began in similar fashion to the first as Windy City managed just three points in the first three minutes of the period. Conversely, Erie scored 12 points in a four-minute span and tied the game at 34 with 7:42 remaining in the half. Minutes later, the BayHawks took a 37-36 lead on a Poythress layup, which was their first advantage since leading 4-2 in the infancy stages of the game. The Erie lead didn't last long as the Bulls went back on top and extended their lead to 10 on a couple occasions, which turned out to be the largest of the night for either team. The BayHawks cut the deficit in half as they outscored Windy City by five in the final 3:08 of the quarter. In total, both teams tallied 31 points and the Bulls maintained their five-point lead heading into halftime.

The BayHawks, however, wouldn't go away as they made it a three-point game with under six minutes to play. Erie went on to tie the game at 78 and eventually took an 84-82 on a bucket by Poythress, which forced a Windy City timeout with 2:44 to play in the period. Out of the timeout, the Bulls rattled off nine consecutive points to move back in front 91-84. Leading by three in the final 35 seconds, Gates nailed a pull-up jumper to stretch the lead to five, and Windy City led 93-88 heading into the final 12 minutes.

Erie made the first basket of the fourth quarter and made it one possession game on a three-pointer by Craig Sword. The Bulls pushed the lead out to seven, but with just over five minutes remaining, the BayHawks pulled to within a basket once more. With 4:07 left to play, Erie took the lead on a three-pointer and followed it with another long ball by Hunter to lead by four, which was their high-water mark for the night. Down the stretch, the two teams see-sawed back-and-fourth and Erie jumped on top by three with 24.2 seconds left. With 12.5 ticks left, Mulder sank a free throw to tie the game at 118 apiece. One the ensuing possession, the BayHawks missed their shot attempt, giving Windy City one last chance with 7.2 seconds on the clock. The Wisconsin Herd came out on top, 118-109, in a divisional matchup against the Windy City Bulls at Menominee Nation Arena on Wednesday night.

The game saw only one lead change as the Herd took a 24-21 advantage with 4:31 left in the first quarter and did not surrender the lead from that point forward.

Wisconsin controlled the game early, thanks to a solid shooting night as a team and a particularly noteworthy performance from Bucks assignee Christian Wood. He chipped in 21 points and grabbed seven boards in the first half as the Herd entered the break with a 64-46 lead.

The Bulls made things interesting with a strong third quarter that saw them go 13-of-21 from the field. Windy City guard Mychal Mulder led his team's near-comeback heading into the final frame by converting four of his five shots (2-3 from three) to go for 11 points in the third. The Bulls continued their hot streak heading into the fourth, going on an 11-to-4 run to open the quarter bringing the game to within two (91-89).

Wisconsin regained control behind guard Vander Blue's 10-point fourth quarter as they notched their second win in a row.

Wisconsin had seven scorers finish in double digits, including all five starters. Leading the scoring effort for the Herd was Wood, who tallied a game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds. Blue provided a spark off the bench, finishing with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win.

The Bulls were led by a pair of 20-point outings from forward Brandon Sampson and guard Walter Lemon, Jr. Sampson finished with a team-high 28 points to go with six rebounds and four assists, while Lemon tallied 22 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Wisconsin takes the court again on Friday as they face off against the Canton Charge. The Bulls make their way to Canada to take on Raptors 905 on Saturday afternoon.

The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, dropped their second consecutive game with a 102-98 loss to the Raptors 905 on Saturday afternoon at Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

Four Bulls players scored in double figures led by CJ Fair who tallied 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals on 9-of-15 shooting. Walt Lemon Jr. had 18 points, five rebounds and nine assists, while Brandon Sampson totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Ferrakohn Hall added 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Rawle Alkins had nine points off the bench.

The 905 were led by their Two-Way players, Jordan Loyd and Chris Boucher. Boucher recorded his 13th double-double of the season and led all players with 25 points to go with 13 rebounds and five blocks, while Loyd posted his first career triple-double and tallied 24 points, career-high 17 rebounds, 11 assists and two steals. Newly acquired Josh Adams had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists in a reserve role and Duane Notice pitched in with 13 points.

Windy City's offense was in rhythm at the start as they made five of their first eight baskets of the game and jumped out to an early 12-3 lead. Conversely, the 905 made their first shot of the contest, but managed to shoot just 16 percent upon the first media timeout. Fair had it on automatic as he shot 6-of-7 in the first quarter and led all scorers with 15 points in the period. Windy City shot 45 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three and opened a double-digit advantage late in the period. In total, the Bulls held the 905 to 17 points on 29 percent shooting and as a result, led 28-17 at the end of the opening 12 minutes.

V.J. Beachem scored the first five points of the second quarter, increasing the Bulls lead to 14. Windy City held a double-digit advantage for the entire period and led by as many as 19. Following the Bulls largest lead of the afternoon, the 905 rattled off eight consecutive points to trim the lead to 11, and eventually pulled to within 10 at the end of the half. Both teams shot over 50 percent in the frame, but it was the Raptors who outscored Windy City 29-28 in the quarter. The 905 had a strong close to the stanza, scoring the final six points, but it was Bulls who led 56-46 at the intermission.

The 905's defensive intensity picked up to start the second half as they forced four turnovers in the opening 5:13 of the third quarter. Windy City's turnovers led to the Raptors scoring 10 of the first 15 points of the period to cut the lead to five. The Raptors eventually tied the game at 64 and took a 71-69 lead, which forced a Bulls timeout with 2:24 remaining in the quarter. The 905's two-point lead marked their first advantage since leading 3-2 in the opening 90 seconds of the contest and Boucher led the way with 14 third quarter points. The Raptors outpaced the Bulls by eight points in the quarter, but two late free throws by Wilder gave Windy City a 78-76 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

Alkins entered the game ranking sixth in fourth quarter points this season and he made his mark to start the final frame on Saturday. He tallied Windy City's first five points of the stanza to give the Bulls a six-point lead and some breathing room. The six points represented Windy City's largest lead of the quarter, but it was quickly erased as the Raptors jumped ahead 90-88 on a pair of free throws by Loyd. The fourth quarter featured three ties and three lead changes, but with 2:06 remaining, the 905 made it a 100-96 game on a put back, lay in by Kyle Collinsworth. Windy City made it a one possession game with under two minutes to play but were unable to tie or retake the lead. The Raptors outscored the Bulls by six the final period and grabbed their 18th win of the season, 102-98.

The Bulls have lost four of their previous five games and are 2-8 all-time against the Raptors 905. Additionally, Windy City is back under the .500 mark for the first time since Jan. 1.

Windy City will enjoy three days off before continuing their four-game road swing on Wednesday night against the Delaware Blue Coats. Tip-off at 76ers Fieldhouse is set for 6:00pm CT.
