Thanks PP. I think I remember reading that before and saying 'oh, that limits a team', but my recall sure ain't total and is barely functioning some days by my calculations then (which may be as inaccurate as my recall), Kanter's 1st year salary on a tax MLE would be 5.7M if the 109M cap projection holds. I find it hard to believe that he'd sign for that little to be a backup. A 3 year deal with a player option would only be 18.4M, which irritatingly, is less than Turner will make next season.
Actually if he was willing to accept the Tax-MLE for one year it would give is a much better chance of keeping him long term. I just don't see him doing that unless he literally gets no offers.
There's another option: Neil: sign with us for one year and next summer i promise to give you the Myers Leonard treatment *wink wink*.
It really is a suck situation. The better he plays the more of a chance we have of becoming a contender, but the better he plays the less of a chance we can keep him. Its a true conundrum. Was he enough of an addition to get us to the wfc? Time will tell, but it will be heartbreak no matter what, right? To know that he was the piece that got us there and because he got us there, he will be too valuable to be able to retain??? Life of a Blazer fan. Fuck.
With Hood and Kanter coming to the team I'd hardly say it sucks...if it's a rental so be it but Kanter is not coming off a rookie contract looking for big bucks...he's been paid well..I'd expect him to want to return and if I'm wrong...he won't...is what it is but I'm not foreseeing failure here
Success breads success. For all we know, Enis' endorsement, and a decent showing in the playoffs, may finally entice other players to choose Team Dame
Trading CJ for a good young player on a rookie contract might solve a lot of problems, if a team had enough cap space/non-guaranteed contracts to make that happen.
That's what I've said for years. The vastly overpaid McCollum is the root of our financial problems. Everyone else wanted to talk about Turner or Leonard or even our bargains, Aminu and Ed Davis.
Non-guaranteed contracts only count in trades what the non-guaranteed amount is as of a new rule last year. So that basically leaves a desperate team that struck out in free agency. The problem with that is it would likely be after most free agents had signed so it wouldn't benefit us until next summer. The trade deadline would've been the time to make a move like that.
