You try to lead the board, but the sarcastic "smh" makes no one listen to you.

No Way? They can - make it to the WCF and everyone will want to stay. Not easy, but simple.

I get the feeling that even if Olshey somehow pulled off a Championship people would say he "tripped" into it.

    Unlikely but...

Trade ET and a 1st for nothing.
Trade Meyers, Harkless, and 2nds for nothing.

Use the $18M in cap space to bring back Kanter ($11M) and Hood ($7M). Bring back Layman as the starting SF.

Offer the cap-room exception to Aminu. If he walks, Collins is the starting PF, and you offer it to Curry. I think Seth would take it.

    Lillard (36) / Curry (12)
    McCollum (35) / Hood (8) / Curry (5)
    Layman (15) / Hood (18) / Trent (15)
    Collins (24) / Layman (16) / Skal (6) / Kanter (2)
    Nurkic (27) / Kanter (21)

I like the Kanter era SO FAR but if the Trade gods allowed us to clear ET/Nards/and Hark before FA next year I’d wanna do better than Kanter/Hood.

It’s up to Olshey to figure it out. That’s his job. This is the biggest free agent signing of his tenure, and he knows how rare it is for a player to choose Portland over a team like the Lakers. I think Olshey was looking to the future with this signing, and never saw it as a short-term rental. I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Kanter have already talked about Kanter’s future in Portland.

Ugh. You are missing the point.

The rules put limits on what olshey can do...

Id love to hear the details of that strong move? The cap rules are there for all to review and dissect.
There are several posters breaking down the limited options and almost every one significantly thins the rest of the roster.

One last time. Its all on Kanter and what he values. When the money is the same, sure he chose Portland. But when another team offers him 12 mill and we can only offer 5.5, you really think olshey whispering sweat nothings into his ear will be the major tipping factor?

The only way we retain him is if he values winning over money aNd that may happen. But its all on him. Not the team or olshey.

No man, Olshey's a bum if he can't circumvent the salary cap to keep him.

ET is paid way too much and constantly chokes. The Nets game proved it! He goes 0-5 fumbles into a turnover and then fouls.

Who you think we could realistically expect that's better...?

Doesn't stop Morey in Houston...the rules can be manipulated.(trading a player that you end up signing again)..the Cavs are a small market that went deep into the luxury tax and made multiple finals appearances with a ring to boot.....who says Portland couldn't do the same. We're not broke like New Orleans or Memphis seem to be all the time...I think we're headed in the right direction.

Well now we are basing it off of Jody wanting to pay a ton of penalty money.
I thought we were talking about within the confines of not mortgaging our future. Where is cleveland now and houston hasnt won and is already looking like a lesser monster than last year. I think the houston thing is almost over and will cost them for many more years.

We are talking about how to keep Kanter while remaining a contender for the next few years. And not giving away the next decade. Gutting the team will not provide that in my opinion.

Yet we can only offer so much money to free agents. Not really about being broke or not...

you can make trades even for future picks and dump salary or pay the luxury tax...my example was Cleveland when Lebron went back there...many teams are looking to this offseason with so many players that will be available. We always have the Nets...…...our G league team

Foresight with financial flexibility with our roster would be awesome. Let me know when that happens.

Despite his stellar stats per minute, all 3 of his teams have gotten rid of him and his temper. I would keep him, but not if we have to pay much. He's not all that wanted around the league and I think our chances of keeping him economically are 50-50.
