It would depend, what if Toronto goes to the finals, then it probably wouldnt matter if the Blazers got to the WCF. What if Philly makes it to the finals? I dont like NO but the deadline moves were good ones.

For the record on still on the fence about him and for the record it isnt just a couple short term moves.
    Nurk was a steal.

We now know offering Kanter a max was a visionary move.

Nobody is perfect. Being a gm and player scout Is much the same as being a pro gambler.

Yeah you can know your numbers and odds but if you want to win you have to take chances. When you take chances you are never going to win all the time.

They are. Never said they were not. Nor did I ever say Olshey should be exec of the year. Was simply acknowledging something I saw from a different perspective if I was to lump Layman into the “recent addition” group. That’s it

I agree with you. I was just playing devils advocate. He has had some damn good moves and some not so good moves. Its all in the game of gambling. once people understand that there IS chance involved on several levels, when offering money out to players, no matter how well scouted for potential or proven they may be. Instead, the narrative that any good gm should only make good moves is more often than not the stance of many, it seems.

:deadhorse: Even the best GMs make mistakes. Good GMs don't repeat the same mistake and also recognize their mistakes and move promptly to fix them. Look at the roster and draw your own conclusions. Frankly, this whole argument is getting tiresome. At this point. I rather wish the mods would just close the thread. :dunno:

Thats the thing though. I dont see him making the same mistakes he did two years ago. I see him making moves to correct those mistakes, just like you advocate a good gm does.
Maybe the opportunity to shed a salary in a trade this deadline simply wasnt available to him without giving up more than what was fair?
But you are right. Tiresome arguement. I shall agree to disagree.

62 pages and this thread really hasn't gone anywhere. It's kind of like a two year long hate thread with some Around the NBA type things thrown in there.

Im gonna disagree, I think its a lot less hateful then it was over the summer. I think most of us think the moves before the trade deadline were good, were excited to watch Nurk become the #2, and well so far the seasons gone pretty good and honestly theyve played better this year then last year up to this point.

At the end of the day all of us (okay most of us) just want the Blazers to be successful, and when they are it lightens our mood quite a bit. Now if they get ousted in the 1st round without a good excuse like an Injury to one of their best players, this threads gonna be a pretty epic meltdown.

I dont dislike NO enough to want the Blazers to lose just so they’ll get rid of him, or I can point my finger and say I was right.

My point really was more about the thread being 2 years old and discussing the same things. Pretty much the positions of the posters have not changed a bit.
It was a very long read when i decided to catch up. The same points have been brought up as many as 30 and 40 times over and over again. But that is just the way the thread goes. There is a place for this discussion and this is the place. have at it.

Kind of seems like the creator needs his creation, if you catch my drift...(and if you don't: http://www.sportstwo.com/threads/meltdown-thread.323091/)

I only bring that thread back after a three game losing streak. It's perfect for that and inevitably there is always a three game losing streak every year. So it's a win/win.

That's because you can't see the posts by the dozens of posters who have you on ignore. (did you set yourself up on purpose?)
