Davis, No. 8 Houston beat East Carolina 99-65 to reach 27-1

Houston has been just about perfect all season to climb the rankings and take control of the American Athletic Conference race.

That didn't change Wednesday night, even on the road in what turned into an ugly environment and a test of the Cougars' composure.

Corey Davis Jr. matched his career high with 26 points to help eighth-ranked Houston beat East Carolina 99-65 in a game that included multiple technical fouls against the Pirates and three ejections during a confusing second-half sequence.

No. 23 Cincinnati wins 52-49 at SMU despite horrid shooting

No. 23 Cincinnati found a way to win when it couldn't make many shots.

"We've had some great nights this year where we've looked awesome. It's easy on those nights," coach Mick Cronin said. "If you're going to have a great program, you've got to win on nights like tonight."

Rashawn Fredericks put the Bearcats ahead to stay with his only two field goals, consecutive layups midway through the second half during an 8-0 run, and they overcame a season-low 26.6 percent shooting night to beat SMU 52-49 on Wednesday.

UCF ends Houston's 33-game home win streak

Central Florida coach Johnny Dawkins is hoping to turn the Knights into a perennial winner in much the same way as Houston coach Kelvin Sampson has elevated the Cougars.

    This will help.

Collin Smith scored 21 points, and Central Florida beat No. 8 Houston 69-64 on Saturday for its third consecutive victory. The Knights also snapped a seven-game losing streak against ranked opponents and stopped Houston's 33-game home winning streak, which was the longest in the nation.

Cumberland leads No. 23 Cincinnati over Memphis 71-69

Freshman guard Logan Johnson knew Memphis was going to set up the league's top scorer for the last shot, so he made sure Jeremiah Martin wouldn't touch the ball.

Johnson stole a pass in the closing seconds to clinch a 71-69 victory over Memphis on Saturday night that moved No. 23 Cincinnati into a first-place tie in the American Athletic Conference.

Temple upsets UCF, makes statement for NCAA Tournament bid

Temple coach Fran Dunphy needed a police escort off the Liacouras Center floor as the university community tried to say thanks and goodbye. Turns out, he was being guided to a celebratory water dousing upon entering the Owls' locker room.

Shizz Alston Jr. scored 21 points, Justyn Hamilton tied a career high with 13 and Temple got a critical 67-62 victory over No. 25 Central Florida on Saturday in Dunphy's final home game before he steps down at the end of the season.
