When Gasol was playing and in the lineup, Aldridge was the PF and his game is more suited as a PF.

Defensively really has no bearing on what position a player plays though. Mo Harkless isn't playing PG when he is guarding the point guard. Defensively it depends on match ups and who a coach wants guarding a certain player.

LMAO, Gasol started just 6 games this year on the Spurs. He only played in 27 games total averaging 12.2 minutes. So "when Gasol was playing and in the lineup" didn't happen enough to make that argument.

LaMarcus Aldridge is listed as a C on Basketball Reference for this season and last season too for the record.

So by that argument Aldridge isn't capable of now playing pf? That's pretty funny. So who plays center the last few years whem Gasol and Aldridge are on the court together?

Not by that argument. There is no argument. They are simply pointing out that he plays Center most of the time and this may very well be because he is to slow on D to cover PF's in the league anymore.

Its all subjective to rosters and opponents, but not sure where the disconnect is for what they are saying. Its not funny, its pretty much common sensed that he is becoming a Center and isnt a PF any longer.

I didn't know this until I read the posts and I'm following along fine.

your opinion is he can play PF. Theirs is he cant.

Where did I say he couldn't play PF? You are arguing that when Gasol was healthy Aldridge was the PF but that barely happened this year and when it did Gasol only averaged 12 minutes a game compared to 33 minutes for Aldridge so even if I gave you credit for something that wasn't true Aldridge would still be playing Center over 60% of the time he played.

Aldridge can still play PF in spurts but it's becoming less and less and will continue to trend that way as he gets older.

Well on SA, I think he plays C because they dont have many other optiosn with Gasol always down.

Here I think he would play PF. However would it work? NOt sure. Neither him or Nurk have a real solid outside shot (3pt) so there is potential to clog up the lanes for guys like Harkless and Laymen to slash, which could really impair our offence.

Defensively, I think it depends on who is our three. If our 3(sf) is weak defensively, we could also have some issues staying ahead of the opponents offence.

To me its a crap shoot. Do I want him on his current payroll? No. But if we can manage to get him for Leonard or Nurk Money, Id do it. It would allow Collins to mature another year or two, give him a solid mentor in his position(PF) and have him ready to take over when LMA fades out.

And where did i say just this year? I already knew Gasol has been injured most the year and why Aldridge was having to play center. Some things are so obvious that they aren't worth saying.

OMG, so you're saying Aldridge has played PF in the past! What a revelation!

We're talking about what Aldridge is now and as he ages, not what position he played in past seasons.

Aldridge easily spreads the floor as he can be money out to around 18'. Him and Nurk would be fine.

To be fair--he didn't call you anything. He said "If you want to ______...then ______...". Just presenting a basic recommendation.

    OMG

Aldridge listed as a forward/center on Yahoo Sports and NBA.com. I guess he can still play forward.

    https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/san-antonio/roster

    https://www.nba.com/teams/spurs/

He also has started 17 games this year at power forward which isn;t surprising considering the only other starting quality big that plays center (Gasol) has been injured much of the year).

    http://www.espn.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/2983/lamarcus-aldridge

and then last year when Gasol was more available, Aldridge started 63 out of the 75 games he played at power forward.

    http://www.espn.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/2983/year/2018/lamarcus-aldridge

and then last year when Gasol started 65 games and was healthy, 63 of those were as a center.

    http://www.espn.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/2983/year/2018/lamarcus-aldridge
