Curry is a more sought after commodity in todays nba though. Who do you think okc would rather have? Kanter or curry?
Would you trade Turner+ our 1st to a salary dump team? if it means we can keep those 3 then we should do it. (I didn't check if it's realistic or not in terms of numbers).
We need to attach our first round pick to ML and move him at the draft. I think we need to try and bring back Chief and Curry, even if Chief eventually comes off the bench. I’d like Hood and Kanter back too, but to a much lesser extent.
Curry is fantastic - but he is going to get more money elsewhere - and Simons can hopefully fill that void. Kanter is good as well, likely to command more than the MLE and the Blazers do have ZC and SL to hold the fort until Nurk comes back - so if you can sign Hood to the MLE, you do that, imho.
It's nothing like the summer of 2016. That summer we overpayed because we had the cap to do so. This summer it's either take a ridiculously small contract or they're gone (except with Aminu and Layman) so if they re-signed it would be for bargains not overpays.
I saw a list the other day of free agent bigs this off season and was blown away....bigs are going to scramble for jobs...Kanter may very well take less on a one year deal to let the market settle down and get a big deal later..or 2 year with player option.Rolo Ed and Antonio Davis Cousins and on and on...there are a lot of bigs that might move. Meyers is gaining trade value...I think Curry should play for the Hornets down the road...he's all about NC...I keep Kanter and Hood and let Simons take Seth's role
problems though the first is that the draft is 2 weeks ahead of when teams would have cap-space and a team would have to already be giving up on their cap-space to agree to a trade. So that makes it a long shot the 2nd problem would be finding a team that would have enough space to be willing to give just a TPE back to Portland...no returning salary. That makes it an even longer long shot but in this fantasy, lets say it happens. Portland is now at 108M in salary for 9 players. 112M with roster charges. Salary cap is 109M. Hood's cap-hold is 6.6M and Seth's is 3.4M. Aminu's is 13.2M. Aminu's cap-hold alone bumps Portland to 125M. The full-MLE bumps to 134M, only 4M below where Portland would be hard-capped if they use the full-MLE. But sign Aminu for say what? 8M...10M? Split the difference at 9M, eliminate a roster charge and the Blazers are at 117M...119M including 2 roster charges because they only have 10 players. Use the full MLE (either Curry or Kanter) and they are at 126M for 11 players. Maybe a million or two less if they don't use the full MLE. Re-sign Hood for his non-Bird and they are around 130M...12 players. A couple of vet minimums and they'd only be busting the tax line by a couple of million with a little margin below the apron...but they'd be hard-capped and that could restrict flexibility at the worst time and none of this accounts for Layman but all that assumes no salary coming back and I really doubt Portland can dump Turner without salary coming back. Maybe Meyers but then the numbers don't work for a full-MLE I think it's pretty clear one of Kanter/Curry will be gone. I know why people want Curry, but to me, the thought of Meyers/Zack/Skal being the C-PF rotation until Nurkic returns is almost laughable.
