I'm not saying we shouldn't have traded him..though I think he didn't get a fair shake. But we could have gotten something better then this, I have no doubt in my mind.He will go on and contribute for Toronto as well...and we will have useless picks 4 seasons from now...I am starting to question Joe Dumars at this point.
The Pistons are just trying to build for the scenario of a rebuild. They will be dominant a litte for years to come, but I can see them going for protection, they have a pretty solid team now. Their bench is underrated to.
I have no problem with the moves Bryan Colangelo makes. I like this deal. This could mean the end of Mo Pete in Toronto or perhaps even Joey Graham.
I don't like what we got in return, but I never really liked Delfino, and we are really good at making the most out of late round picks. This opens up the door for our first round pick in the draft...Stuckey or Young??

I remember reading that the Pistons were very big on him, which may be one of the reasons they traded Delfino. Stuckey is a great scorer, and the Pistons might have wanted to clear some playing time for him, because they may feel that's who they are going to draft.
I feel we could have gotten something better for him, or packaged him in a larger deal. I still have faith in Joe, so we'll see how this turns out. Delfino wasn't going to become that "Next Manu" anyway, or even a 6th man here, and Joe realized that which is probably one of the reasons he was traded.
Good trade for us. Delfino was never consistent and isnt going to get any better. We'll replace him with a first rounder in the draft. Those 2 second rounders could help. Theres a lot of gems in the secound round to be found.
I mean I kind of had a feeling that this was a make or break season for Delfino. I mean it looked at times during this season that Delfino would become the Ginobli of our team but he was inconsistent especially in the playoffs. I mean Delfino still has potential but there was no way he was going to get the minutes to show off that real potential. Now to the actual trade, I do agree that we could of gotten a lot better or throw him in a package for other potential deals. I mean the 2nd round picks are good for package deals and getting some cap relief but there could be better deals out there. I agree that this was more of a cap relief move than helping the squad. Dumars has said in the past that his weakness as a front office official is the draft.
Mehmet Okur?Drafted by Dumars in the second round and turned out to be a All-Star.Amir Johnson?Drafted by Dumars in the second round and is coming into his own.Jason Maxiell and Tayshuan prince werent 2nd rounders, but they were very late first rounders.
This was to clear room for Alex Acker for next year apparently.Maybe he'll get some decent minutes...I'd like to see what the guy can do.
Mehmet was an All-Star replacement, there is a difference. Plus lets not forget his terrible preformance in the playoffs against the Spurs.Amir Johnson hasn't done anything. I've almost played as many minutes as him.Jason Maxiell is just a nice NBA player.... not to mention that Dumars missed guys like Monta Ellisand David Lee. Prince is above-average for where he was picked, but you could say that about alot of players in that draft. It wasn't that good of scouting.
I don't know if I would have traded him for two second rounders but its better than one. This trade could be to open up room for Acker or one of our picks. But I am thinking this is to get rid of his salary and room on the team to go after a former Piston (or maybe a former MSU/Raptor forward).
I think this move seeing as you gained nothing and dropped salary is clearly for Billups. Dumars is just opening up room for his contract. It leaves an opening for say a Grant Hill or Mo Pete though in the wings(for the MLE). But I still believe it's a salary dump for Billups.

Might be a nice combo guard for ya'll next season.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWgOF8-GEF4
This is most likely just opening a slot for a free agent, and it also gives us more cap room to resign Chauncey.I do agree that Delfino is worth more then 2 2nd rounders, but this could help us in the future, and with the team on the old side and some players close to retirement, I can't say that this move it going to hurt us.
