I will give Stotts supporters credit for one thing. So far, nobody has tried to claim that getting curb-stomped in game one was part of some master plan!

While it's always easy to dump on Stotts at a time like this, I look at last night's loss as coming as result of a combination of factors: The Warriors extra day of rest and planning was apparent, the Blazers looked gassed (especially Chief and Kanter, who looked Rama-done), cold shooting, and too many stupid turnovers. I don't agree with the decision not to double Curry, especially once he got his fire lit, but absent all of those other issues maybe the Blazers could have made it work. That said, this is a series and Stotts' worthiness as being the head coach who has what it takes to lead the Blazers to the next level is going to be judged based on his adjustments as the series evolves, not by the results of Game 1.

Defensively, I'd expect Terry to continue to predominantly play single coverage because it seems to be hard wired into his DNA. But I'd also expect there to be some quick doubles to try to disrupt Curry.

Offensively, what is Stotts going to do to get Lillard some space to shoot? I am so tired of seeing Dame bring the ball up slowly into a set defense, move to the corner, get trapped, pass out of it and then get the ball back, take a screen that's set too slow, only to have the opponent's big move up and force Dame to pass the ball away. The Nuggets used the same strategy as the Pelicans did last year, and now we're seeing the same thing again with the Warriors. We've got to see an offensive adjustment there by tomorrow night. Maybe Dame has to play off of the ball more, maybe he needs to bring it up quicker so that the defense doesn't get set, maybe something else? I'm fully aware that a lot of you are better at the X's and O's than I am, but I'm also willing to bet that Stotts' staff is better than anyone here. They'd better do something because otherwise, this is going to be another sweep.

    yuyuza1, thanks for the quotes

    but I'm wondering about something:

"Harkless chuckled, indicating he was joking about using Turner at the five, but his point was made: The Blazers’ defense was too soft, as in allowing too much space.

But later, he revealed that softness might include more than defense."

what was Quick talking about there with the 'softness' other than defense bit?

I was wondering the same. Feels like a throwaway line.

Really? This is a silly thing to quibble about.

Also, when you schedule anything with anyone, at least 2 people are speaking and scheduling it. Who cares who initiated the conversation?

Also, you don't know who initiated it. You're assuming.

    This is just silly.

I spoke with a client of mine who has worked at Nike for years and has risen quite a ways up the ladder. She is a huge Warriors fan but also follows the Blazers. The first thing she said to me when I called her about one of her investment accounts was, "Why would Portland guard Steph and Klay like that?"

Still haven't heard a good reason as to why the coaching staff thought that was a good idea. #StephAndKlayCanShoot

Nah - not until he can eat some protein before tip-off. Right now he's just a rebounder, and any shots should come from cleaning up the offense boards. Giving him shots is a horrible idea during Ramadan.

The difference is Olshey actually tried to fix it this year and knows he needs to give Dame more help. He's been hamstrung by his own doing of course, but starting this summer he should in theory start to change things back in his favor.

Stotts seems unwilling to change his philosophies.

I'll tell you what i will be clear about. I guarantee without question that if the Blazers lose game two the mundane posters that will call out Stotts will be here in full force. If the Blazers make adjustments and hit some open looks while playing solid defense with more energy that leads to a win those same posters will say that those are the adjustments they were all talking about and it's about time that Stotts finally did what they were saying to do.
If the Blazers lose this series the Stotts haters will say it was because of him and his shortcomings and give GS absolutely no credit for being an overall better team like all of us know they are but a few are unwilling to admit because it doesn't fit their narrative.
If the Blazers win and go to the Finals then Stotts will be safe until the first loss in the Finals where all the same posters will come at him again and try to spew their drivel about him being sub par and too set in his ways and how they are sick and tired of being the only one's who can see the obvious reasons that the team lost a game.

I hope that is clear enough for you.

There i said what well over 90% of the rest of the fan base thinks about this situation. Have at it.

Really? You think being in a game until 5 mins left is being "Curb Stomped"?

I wanted to respond the same way but it's a tough one to specify. You did a masterful job in getting that point across. I was unwilling to put out the effort.
I will be better next time.

This is all great. BUT it's too late.

These are things the coaching staff & team should be working through & practicing through the 82-game season. Employing a new strategy that you haven't practiced before during the playoffs is most likely to fail. Unfortunately, there aren't any other options at this point.

I was shaking my head in disbelief about that as well.
They said that we wouldn't be able to fit in game-day shoot around for the entire series because of the start time.
I know the athletes are creatures of habit, but you are disrupting the habit more by foregoing shoot around than moving it up 90 minutes.

I think that is more in Dame's DNA. Stotts has repeatedly asked his team to get out and run more - with very little success.
After a big gets a rebound, they always look around for Dame to pass to - who is almost always waiting in back court for the pass. For whatever reason, Dame just doesn't like to push the tempo.

It is kinda infuriating to see him get over half-court with 1 second to spare nearly every single time.
