Slowest pace doesn't mean every time we get the ball over half court at 1 second before the count.

My DVR is a cloud DVR so no. I should have rephrased that. I'm not calling you a liar. I'm calling you an exaggerator.

Sure it happened some BUT he didn't:

    That is simply untrue.

Which is why I didn't say 'every time'.

It fits the pattern of Stotts being unwilling to make changes to the starting lineup, and moving glacially slow at changing in-game substitution patterns. It's looking more and more like his game time rigidity flows from his doing the same with practices. There can't be much preparation for things like trapping defenses if he can't even get a practice in between games or move a shoot-around up 90 minutes.

Okay, way to call out internet exaggeration.
It happens a lot though - to the point where my buddy and I could have made a drinking game out of it during the DEN series.

Meh... I still don't agree that it happened as much as you say. I'd wager it happens 20% of the time at best.

Wait a minute? You mean to tell me he wasn't using green font when he said that?
People on this board don't want to hear that. No way Curry could score while being trapped. The Blazers Must use the trap or Stotts just isn't a good coach.

You’re right, we should just continue to allow curry to get wide open looks and pray he misses. Maybe the series ends in four instead of six.

Nobody said "Wide Open Looks". The word is "Trap", and i will use green font next time. Because some are a bit touchy after losing game 1 to the Champions in their gym during the Western Conference Finals.

I think you're on to something. This way, our guys would definitely get more rest.

I haven't sensed that the complaints are 'that' we lost, but rather the complaints are 'how' we lost.

Blazers were a laughing stock after that performance, starting with the coaching schemes which were called out repeatedly by two knowledgeable former coaches, and ending with the lousy performance of our players.

Everyone saying we would be swept are sitting pretty smugly right now.

I can't wait for the Blazers to disappoint them and wipe that smug off their faces!

    Hello darkness, my old friend
No, people don't like that Stotts employed a stupid scheme against Curry. You seem fixed on the result, when actually Stotts' critics are focusing on the process.

To put it more simply: even if the Blazers had won the game, employing a drop coverage against Curry and gifting him wide-open three pointers would have been stupid.

You don't employ a scheme that's predicated on leaving the shooter free against the greatest shooter in league history. It wasn't a dumb strategy against Westbrook, because Westbrook can't shoot straight--it is dumb against Curry.

Hmmm. A lot of words there, but no answer to the question.

Given the cap situation, there is no second chance here. This was their one shot for who knows how many seasons. Do you honestly think Stotts has done everything possible to help the team take advantage?

I hold Stotts and Olshey to a high standard because I want the team to win. 10 years ago the GSW were a bad team - now they are a great team. Always falling short is not inevitable. If the Warriors can go from joke franchise to NBA powerhouse, so can the Blazers. The difference, is that the Warriors didn't just settle. They changed coaches and GMs until they got the right group in place.

Aw hell....just put me on ignore. You will never agree with the point I am trying to make, and ignoring me will be better for your peace of mind.

You blatantly downplay the wins as not legit wins but the loss vs three time world champ is definitely real. Pick a lane.

This is the core of my current anger. There is no "wait till next year" here. How long has it been since their last appearance in the WCF? How long until the next one? Our only realistic chance to win this series was to steal game 1 and then fight like hell to win the games in the Moda. We were still likely to lose, but at least we could have said the Blazers did their best.

The thing is, I don't think Olshey has the creativity keep us at the same level this off-season.

He's made solid moves this year but it was things like signing a bought out free agent, and trading two scrubs and two 2nd round picks for a guy with no bird rights.

It sounds like we'll be back to having another Nik Stauskas playing significant minutes next to Evan Turner off the bench next year. With Nurkic out, we might miss the playoffs next season....

I blatantly stated facts.....I see where that was confusing. Still gave them props....twice. Somehow, that keeps being selectively missed.

why does it always have to be one extreme or the other around here?

the best defense is unpredictable in the way it attacks. You don't trap every time because that could then be anticipated. But for fucksakes, you don't drop the big 10-15' back from the point of attack every damn time either...which is what the Blazers did. Golden State spent the entire game anticipating, correctly, what the Blazers were going to do on screens and picks. They fucking knew they'd be open and have little pressure.

not only do you have to vary the defense at the point of attack, you have to vary the aggressiveness too. Portland was the same level of passive the same way on the same plays, over and over.
