Lot of shitting on Zach lol I’d be real hesitant to trade Zach. He’s already a good defender, he has good footwork offensively... only two things he needs now is shooting touch and strength, considering he is 21, those things will happen.
I remember Olshey saying that and my thought was he was omitting plenty of context he was omitting that the Blazers would be sending out just about as much "significant salary". To get BG they would have had to send out right around 26M. That would have been Turner + Meyers/Harkless. Turner + Aminu wouldn't have been enough. Turner + Aminu for Kevin Love would have been enough But neither of those deals would have generated any interest from the other team unless the Blazers included a hell of a lot more I also think the "50%" number was just pure spin. I can't imagine Olshey ever offering enough to get those kinds of players. He always seems to low-ball those kinds of trades..by a lot...and yeah, that's conjecture
All Olshey statements about trades and such need to be discounted by at least 50%. He missed his calling as a used car salesman.
years back I remember some of the same trade conversations about JONeil. We had BG & RW. JO was just out of HS year younger than Zach when we got him. Anyway we package JO for Dale Davis I believe not know he would even become a starter.
FWIW, there were rumors at the time that doubts about JO had more to do with attitude than talent. Collins seems more like a hard worker with a good motor who just isn't anything special as a player. Then again, I'm of the school of thought that no player should be deemed untouchable for the right offer.
Of course you don't believe him. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't but I already know this was your answer. I think at the time ET/Aminu/Collins worked. That would've added a decent amount to the payroll. Depending on what they thought of Collins and picks getting an expiring contract and only one more year of ET would've saved them some money this summer too. It's not really that far-fetched. The Cavs one doesn't make much sense after we just traded them for Hood as it could've been part of a bigger trade.
Man, a starting lineup of Dame, Jrue, Butler, Collins, and Nurk???????? Fuck that sounds nice. Find a way to keep Hood and Kanter off the bench and that is a contender.
Your saying we should take the wait and see approach, develop more if you will? We've been down that road so many times already. Do Dame and CJ really have time for that?
Just a matter of priorities. Dame is in his prime and needs a better supporting cast NOW. Patience might benefit Collins - but not the team. Think of it this way - would you trade Dame or Nurk for the chance to draft Zion Williams? Would you risk the future on an unproven, blue-chip prospect? If not, why would you sacrifice the present and risk the future on a much lesser prospect like Collins?
strenght for sure, but shooting touch? can you develop shooting touch? i don't think so, you either have it or not
“We just have to continue to improve with the guys we have,” Lillard told Yahoo Sports. “And then if it presents itself where we can get some guys in that can maybe take us to the next level, then look at that. I think that’s all we can do.”
Zach need to figure out how to hold on to the ball. Seemed like about every game he would bring the ball down low and a defender would come from behind and swipe it from him.
https://www.blazersedge.com/2019/5/...rail-blazers-trades-2019-free-agency-playoffs The Trade that Could Move the Trail Blazers Forward in 2019-20 Portland has a one-time opportunity in 2019-20. How hard should they pursue it?
Hopefully we do not have to wait util February, but like this article states: "The right move may not be available in the summer. Portland may have to wait until December or January for potential trade partners to figure out they need to part ways with their former Super-Expensive Signing"
The goal is to win a championship not developing young players. If you can put together a good package involving Zack for Blake you do it. The core guys aren't getting any younger.
