Great for Dame ... pathetic for the Blazers.

So there will be a faction of you who will look down on Dame for taking what he has earned.

Makes absolutely no sense to me.

This salary cap and rules were collectively bargained for by the players AND owners.

It should not be an expectation. You willing to take less than what you're owed just to make your boss's job easier?

I believe Peyton Manning and Elway did it. I have heard of others, but I haven't cataloged them over the years and I have no idea how you would search years of NFL stories to find the info.

Make the boss's job easier? There is a cap. It makes DAMES job easier too does it not?

I never said I expect him to, And I said I wont fault him. But really, if he wants to win, he will take less to afford better players around him.

This kid deserves EVERY penny offered. Not sure how the people who are actually thinking this is a negative thing were raised. Not one person on here would leave money on the table in your current situation, yet have the balls to question Dame. This is a business. And please save the whole,"when is enough, enough?" bullshit!

Grind, stack those chips and take care of your own.

It's not an expectation but the reality of what helps the team...and the player long-term if they are better. The better the team, the more exposure and endorsements for the player.

Dame is very good, but he's not in Curry or Giannis's class so he needs more help. He can only get more help if there is more money. More money equals more help equals better team for which he is the face and the leader....which means more money for him from other sources.

Not negative for him, negative for the team. This is black and white. X amount of dollars to spend. 15 players to spend it on. Star player takes less provides more money to get better players around him.

Not sure what the disagreement is here.

Does Dame want a ring here? Does the team want a ring with Dame?

What is the best, highest percentage of that happening? Acquiring better talent, right?

More money to spend on talent means more talent, or better talent, correct?

Dame does deserve it....that's not the point. And don't say "not one person here would leave money on the table in your current situation" because I have done it in my career for something that was better long term. And it worked out very well so I've repeated the same strategy multiple times.

I'm not dogging Dame for taking the money. But there is also a longer term reality here that the franchise will then be faced with.

Yes, Let's ask Dame to take less money so that Neil can give Evan Turner a $70 mil extension. If Neil had shown a penchant for smart spending and making right decisions with regards to contracts, it would be one thing. But he hasn't. If I'm dame and take less only to see my $ spent on garbage players, I'd be pissed.

Three years ago. I think NO has learned lessons, exhibited by the Nurk contract.

And if I'm Dame, I go to him and say I want to win.
i'm willing to take less, but we need real talent, not the scrubs you paid.

IF Dame wants to win,k he will work with the team. That's the bottom line. If he wants money and to be a 4-8 seed and be on a second tier team here for his career than he will take the max and not worry about making the difference up in endorsements.

I would be happy to fire Olshey in exchange for Dame taking less money. The obvious problem is that Dame supposedly loves Olshey.

Long term thinking my friend. Made much more in the long run. So it really wasn't turning money down, it was accepting more.

Didn't Duncan and Dirk take less money to help with roster flexibility? Like with the NFL examples, it's usually guys late in their careers doing that sort of thing. I've gotta think it's pretty rare for someone in their prime like Dame.

It's a weird, slippery slope for both the team and player here, with loyalty being a huge talking point for both sides, but greed being an underlying storyline when someone is already compensated extremely well but wanting as much as possible. They have to play it perfectly and hope for good roster management down the road, otherwise it blows up in both sides' faces.

    Please explain your baffledness.

Are you saying that more talent around Dame wouldn't make his job easier?
