I'd really like to drive a Porsche. Porsche should sell it to me for less so that I have more money available for all of the little things that will make that Porsche really look good when I drive it, maybe a little bling to hang around my neck, a nicer home so it will look good in my driveway, you know, I have expenses to make that Porsche really work for both of us. They should really take a discount.

Tom Brady and Tim Duncan didn't not take max contracts when they were in their prime. They took less when they were older.

And Dirk taking less backfired on him when Cuban broke up a championship roster.

Besides, Tim Duncan had like 2/3rds of his season without income tax.

Really? Look at the NFL and their QBs. Except for a select few, it's virtually impossible to put a supporting cast around a QB off of his rookie contract.

You talk of this as if it's a guarantee that Dame taking less would make us a championship contender. If this is the kind of financial advice you're giving, good luck getting any takers.

This is true, but NFL really needs a bigger salary cap and larger rosters.

exactly, thank you for calling out a bad take

    we don't know that

all we know is that when Olshey has max cap-space he offers max contracts to Roy Hibbert, Enes Kanter, Greg Monroe, Chandler Parsons and Hassan Whiteside. And he offers Turner 70M, Meyers 41M, and matches Crabbe at 75M

when there is almost no cap-space at all league-wide and it's a complete buyer's market, he can get Nurkic on a discount deal.

the preponderance of evidence is that Olshey is a moron when he has space

IMHO, the QB spot on thexroster shouldn't count against the cap.

He averaged 26.6,6.6,4.8 while constantly facing doubles with a third guy behind the double just to get the ball out of his hands. This argument is so stupid, Dame did not play bad but people will just look at the scoreboard and not how he actually played and go "OMG DAME SUCKS!". Dame created a ton of space because of how how hard GS and the Nuggets were chasing him and basing their D around him, he did this while sharing hte court with 3 players the other team just left open(Aminu/harkless/Kanter) because they knew that those three wouldnt' make great or quick passes and those teams were fine with those three shooting and maybe scoring rather then Dame score. But if you want to blame DAme sure go ahead and blame him regardless if its justified or not.

Anyone have a problem that the first year of the $191 mil supermax contract starts when he's 31? One could say that's a bad contract the moment he signs it

You're looking at this as if Dame is just an employee and he should be willing to take a reduced salary so that his employer can put other better employees around him to achieve more success.

In my somewhat strained analogy, Dame is a business (Porsche in this case). He has his music career, he has his endorsement deals, and he has his basketball talents all available to market for his best financial advantage. The Blazers are where he has currently contracted to use his basketball skills. Once that contract is up, he's entitled to sell his basketball talents to any other team, but the Blazers want to, in essence, continue to drive the Porsche. They also want to have other pieces around the Porsche to make the most impact for their own marketing ambitions. They operate in a business environment where the top-end talent is necessary to have any success. Expecting that you get the Porsche for less than market value just so you can buy lesser pieces is not a realistic business plan.

Okay but then Dame( The porche), will run longer and maintain longer with the help.
