    Sly, you are really slacking.....

A group of champion female squash players slammed the Spanish tournament they won as sexist after being given vibrators as a prize.
    squash3.jpg

The incident took place after the winner of the Asturias Squash Championship 2019, Elisabet Sado Garriga, received her prize along with runner-up Olaya Fernandez Lence.

Third-place winner Marina Arraiza Mier and fourth-place winner Cristina Barandica Fernandez also were given gifts. The prizes for the four included a “Pure Fantasy” vibrator from Durex, a waxing set and an electronic exfoliator for their feet.

The vibrator is sold as an “elegant personal stimulator designed to give you sensual pleasure.” The winners reportedly filed a complaint with the country’s squash federation for sexism and discrimination.

Local radio show “Ganamos Con Ellas” (“We Win With Women”) posted a photo of the prizes, describing them as “degrading, shocking, harmful, inconceivable but sadly real.”

Seems like the natural progression of equality. I may or may not use anything like that someone gave me as a prize but I wouldn't be mad if they did.

Allow me to play devil's advocate here.

The claim here is that the gifts were sexist. But if the gifts received were not sexual in nature, would the same response have been given? I see a quote in the Daily Mail article about this: The president of another regional organisation added: 'Would the organisers have dreamed of gifting the men winners a male sex toy? I'm sure it didn't even cross their minds.'

So, the sexism is in believing that women like sexual pleasure, and in giving them a device to facilitate that, but not providing the men a similar item?

Where men given one though? If so, it was just inappropriate. If not, it was sexist and innapropriate.

So women don't like sexual pleasure?

Oy, let me womansplain this for the fellas... these women are professional athletes at work. They take their work seriously and want to be taken seriously. All the years of training and sacrifice and then the winner is instantly reduced to a sexual object (and it's going to look real purty after it uses the personal grooming tools also generously included in the prize package).

I actually appreciate that (I mean, I probably coulda done without the condescension, but whatevs).

I don't necessarily see it as them being "reduced to a sexual object", but since I've never been viewed as a sexual object, I really wouldn't know anything about that. At the very least, I can see how/why some would view it that way, and I appreciate the added perspective.

I wasn't trying to be condescending, I was just making a joke. Do I come across as a militant feminist?

A woman would perceive this as being reduced to a sexual object because this was a professional work event and not a sexual situation. Guys, let me be as clear as possible... if you're not on a porn set, keep the penises and other phallic objects of any kind under wraps at the work place or you're going to make someone mad and get sued. It's not appropriate at the office, in the military, on a movie set, in politics, or at a squash championship. It's akin to the black faced dumb assery we keep seeing over and over again (this is also something that is never ever okay or funny or appropriate in any situation ever). How does this keep happening in 2019?!? How are these men so freaking ignorant after the hash tag me too movement, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Matt Lauer, et al?!?

Does the fact that it was a sex-object company (Durex) sponsoring and providing the gift enter into consideration at all? Or as a tournament organizer, are they duty-bound to decline all potential advertising revenue from sex-based businesses when women are involved?

I can't recall that day either. But then on further thought, I am going to count that a plus.

I've been viewed as a sexual object by overweight women and let me tell you there's nothing pretty about it. Good looking women seem to see me as asexual and again there's nothing pretty about that.
I long for the old days when good looking women used to call me 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Always propositioning me, I tell you it was a burden. Somehow, I got through it.

Giving a vibrator to a woman for an athletic prize is unmistakable.

You are cracking me up @PtldPlatypus - not sure if intentional or not... :crystalball:

Anyway, no they don't have to decline advertising revenue, but in the interest of not causing an international incident it's more of a "print up stuff with the logo and website on it and display it prominently" deal instead of a "congratulations let me hand you a fake penis cause you're a dirty girl" kind of event.

I did say I was playing devil's advocate. If I'm going to play the role, I'm going to go full-tilt.

In this era of sexual empowerment--even moreso in Europe--use of personal stimulators is still being viewed as "dirty"? That seems a bit anachronistic, don't you think?

Hah... Touche! And also, where's the accent aigu?

This leads me to a seemingly random, yet connected in my mind, topic... Killing Eve... does anyone else watch this TV show? Let's discuss!

If those women decide to get together and have a party and BUY this stuff that's fine.

Giving it to them for free? HOW DARE YOU!!!!

I'll take just about any gift from anyone. If it is worth something and not harder to sell than the value of the gift. I'll fly to Portland today and drive that sweet Audi here if HCP wants to hand it over and still make the payments.

I've never heard of a man bitching about free stuff unless he thought it should have been more expensive free stuff.
