He's really built like Will Barton...he got some upper body muscle...little definition in his calves, but he needs lower core muscle...he's probably still growing at 19

So. Im all about Simon’s in the gym and its great!!!
Defense usually comes from the waist down though. Strong legs to move quicker side to side and keep up with your guy.
I agree. Id rather see him doing leg strengthening workouts and defensive skills workouts.

Not with Damian "every 30 foot jumper I make is because of leg day" Lillard as a mentor.

Strength doesnt mean more lateral quickness.

That's at least 20 pounds of muscle.

Certainly doesnt mean slower lateral quickness. Picking semantics again bro. Point being he should be strengthening his bottom half. Not his top half. My opinion.

I liked you post, but you did just insinuate that:

I think he needs to get those legs stronger so he can shoot.

Lower core strength is a hurdle for all rookies pretty much...Vonleh was born with it...other guys need to build it up. It's less about lateral quickness than about not getting pushed out of the way when you're feet are set....Jake Layman has really good lower core strength for his size

Ok so Quick thinks Simons will play next year. From his chat about a week ago.

Joe Freeman and Casey Holdahl both think he's the 6th man.

Unless they trade CJ, which I find rather doubtful, I expect Olshey to bring in a minimum wage vet and Stotts to bury Simons for most (if not all) of the season.

Simons has to play next season. And he should. Twitchy fucker with crazy confidence and has all the natural god given smooth ability. And we won’t have Seth (likely)

I think you would be right if we were talking about about a low post defender. I am having flashbacks from old comparisons between Oden and KD.
KD's legs were "too skinny" and he could not bench press worth shit. Those memories are painful.

Simons is quick and he has a great wing span for his size. How often do guards post up? His leg strength will be fine. I would not rush him in the weight room. Skinny legs can be deceptively strong. They are obviously explosive already. His upper body already looks much bigger

    Saying this for years
The thing I can't get over is young dude has a weird-looking shot. It's like a chicken wing. Elbow out. Never seems to get full extension. But he has a terrific natural touch. And it goes in.

Dame has kind of unusual mechanics, too, although it seems to have smoothed out a bit over the years.

But I don't know any coach that'd teach a kid to shoot that way.
