So we shouldnt do it because AD might leave...? Thats not a good enough reason for me when the young talent we have in the pipeline wont hit their primes until Dames window is closed. You use Dame's window closing as an argument to not risk it for Davis because of the setback thatd happen if he left.

Thing is, we'd have Dame, Nurk, and $60M in cap space. With the right moves with that flexibility, we could be right back to where we were before.

I would sort of like to see a win before too much more time passes.

My argument was we shouldn't trade for Davis because:

    • Toronto got lucky
    • Anthony Davis isn't Kawhi Leonard...Davis will leave...Kawhi will probably stay
    • The Blazers would have to give up more than Totonto did
    • DeRozan is overrated and the DeRozan/Lowry Duo was never going to win. It was time to rebuild anyway.
    • The Blazers probably wouldn't win anyway with Davis
    • Alot of things had to go Toronto's way for them to win.
    • Olsheys plan is working. The Blazers are getting better and better. They just made the WCF's.
    • The Blazers progression will net them a chip in the near future
    • A 1 year Davis rental isn't going to change the perceptions of Portland as a destination for free agents.
All that said, I did make it clear if the trade did happen I wouldn't be upset. If he helped us win a chip and then left, I said it would be worth it, even if it knocked us back into mediocrity for a long time.

I am have read alot of arguments about why the Blazers should go after Davis and go all in. Not so many about why they shouldnt. I wanted to play devils advocate and put out an argument against it.

    Short answer.

Winning isn't all about luck. There are plenty of things teams can control. I know you don't agree, but the Raptors earned that trophy! If luck is involved in the 19-20 season, it is the bad luck GSW has suffered with injuries. Whether other teams take advantage is in their hands.

As for the current Blazer team winning a title...not a chance. This team has hit its ceiling and quite possibly over-achieved. The team has glaring weaknesses (ie both forward spots) that cannot be addressed internally. The team can take a risk to improve (with no guarantees of success) or tread water (guaranteed to fail).

Look, we're not getting Davis ANYWAY. But if we had a shot we should absolutely offer everyone but Dame because life's too short. Being a solid, good-but-not-great team just isn't what it's about. That's what the Raptors WERE.

Yes, sure, Davis isn't Kawhi. But even if Kawhi leaves the Raptors now, the trade was 100% worth it. And you don't know Davis will leave any more than people knew Paul George would leave OKC.

I agree with the first paragraph. The second paragraph is completely wrong.

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense. If a teams bad luck offers a better opportunity for their opponent to prevail then that would be good luck for the opponent, which is exactly what happened this year for Toronto. As for the rest of the negativity, meh!!!

Like in any deal, it's all about the cost. If it costs us McCollum, Nurkic, 1st round picks and maybe something else then it probably isn't worth it if Davis is still saying he will leave after the year. If he were to opt in for the final year then it might be worth it. People say it worked for Toronto, but there have been many more instances where it didn't work. OKC got George to re-sign but yet they didn't do much this year.

Let's say the Blazers make this trade and then win the championship and then Davis leaves and we don't even make the playoffs for 5 years. Say we are the worst team in the league for the next 5 years. It would still worth it. 100%.

Or say we make the trade and get swept in the first round and Davis leaves. And we are the worst team in the league (which could NEVER happen with Dame on the team, even just Dame 1 on 5) for the next 5 years. I would still be worth it. Calculated risks are what it's all about! Swinging for the proverbial fences!

That being said, I think if we end up with Davis, that means Olshey thinks he'll resign. Dame and him are fast friends.

Oh they earned it, I don't disagree. They had to beat both !1 teams to get the chip. They won games against both on the road to help build series leads. They ended up beating GSW in Oakland, winning three if four at the Oracle. They earned it.

But, luck did play a part. Thry had to rely on a miracle bounce in shot by Kawhi to get to the conference finals. If it bounced the wrong way, it would have been over fir the Raptors and the Sixers would have played Milwaukee instead.

The Warriors suffered several injuries to their main players. Yes, the Raptors still possibly have won if there were no injuries, but it would have been a different series. I am not on the Raptors only won because of the Warriors injury train.

The Blazers haven't hit a ceiling. Not like Toronto did before trading DeRozan for Kawhi. The Blazers are still progressing. I do believe they overachieved. They are right where they need to be.

Agian if we trade for Davis and go for it cool.
