Well, he still manages to get all the coffee in his mouth, which really is what matters, but the way he goes about it looks somewhat awkward and unorthodox.
That list is insane. No way Simons should be rated ahead of Dame, CJ, Nurkic and Collins. If he ever gets there great, but he has a lot to prove still.
List of Mediocre Man’s favorite Blazers draft picks of the last 10 years: 1. ... 2. ... 3. ... 4. Dame, I guess, sigh. 5. All the rest tied with crap.
Serious question, does anyone know how his PG chops are? Yes he's bouncy, long, and (somehow) makes a lot of his shots, but with what feels like the entire fanbase wanting to get rid of ET, do we feel confident enough in this kid running the offense while Dame is out? Or is he more of a CJ type? I guess I'm just skeptical of mock draft website reviews of his HS tape...
He showed some good passing chops in the Sacramento game, including a wrap-around bounce pass to I think it was Meyers for a bucket, a long lookahead pass to Meyers for a dunk, and an alley-oop I seem to recall. I remember him also having a baseline drive in another game where he drew defenders and dished nicely to Layman for a dunk. But I sense at least at this point that creating space and facilitating offense for others from the point is something he still needs to work on. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be yet with Ant handling point for long stretches, but I think he's got more of a point guard mentality than your typical two guard.
This is pretty much where I'm at too... More of a Monta Ellis than a true 1, which can be fine, with the right roster construction. I think we're going to learn a lot about how the front office views next season in the next few weeks -- acquiring a vet. PG, vs. standing pat with Simons, to me, is definitely something to monitor...
