Yes, this is all true. The caveat to your caveat (ha ha) is that if just one or two of those guys (Simons, Little, Skal, or Trent) turn into rotational players or better yet starter/star level players then it kind of makes what we do with those other guys not matter quite as much. Now that's probably asking a lot of Simons and Little in particular to be solid rotation guys let alone as good as Curry and Hood were for us but it's not that far fetched to think by the end of the season they could match most of their productivity.

If this team can just tread water and stay in the playoff race until closer to the trade line then I think we could make some moves without having to give up too much in terms of young assets. Heck the Bulls basically got Porter last year for expiring contracts.

The other thing too is that if we do bring in a Blake Griffin or an Otto Porter it completely ruins any chance of flexibility next summer. Without that flexibility if we trade away too many young assets then we'll pretty much be stuck with that team for two years. That could be fine and totally worth it if it makes the team contend but if they don't any further than last year, deplete their assets, and lose cap flexibility is that really the best route?

I was for moves like trading for Hayward, trading for Wiggins, but now...nah. I love Little and I think he will be in the rotation as a rookie, at some point. We could make an aggressive move for this one year window, but if we don’t win the championship, then what? I think I’d rather just stay the course, stay patient, and when money opens up again starting next summer, make smarter decisions on who to spend it on.

I hope so much that Little is gonna be able to shoot something like 37% or 38% on spot-up 3s, but first, he has to be in Rotation. We dont know how the roster looks on opening night, but what we know is that Stotts and the Blazers in general dont give much playing time to rookies, thats one thing i've never liked about our team. I would have loved it to see more of Simons last Season, but i really hope they give Little good minutes, sometimes it's better to throw a rookie in the fire instead of waiting and being patient

I don’t know if Stotts doesn’t play rookies more so that Stotts just doesn’t have good rookies to play. I mean, Collins played. Back when CJ, Barton Crabbe, etc didn’t play the roster was much more loaded. Simons was super raw, I don’t think it would’ve been fair to him to throw him out there when he was a couple months removed from an academy. He would’ve most likely gotten destroyed physically, especially defensively.

I think Little is more like Collins. He won’t be expected to play, but when he eventually does, he’ll stick.

What? If he can shoot a 35% clip from 3, he's already better than Harkless. How doesn't he match up with this teams timeline? He's as ready as anyone who was available at 25...

I want Hayward. I don't think Boston has a use for him if Kyrie and Horford are leaving.

Turner and Harkless for Hayward. I think he's ready for a resurgence and he needs a change of scenery.

I'm talking about obtaining Porter who is a consistent 40% 3pt shooter versus a guy who has never shot 3s in the NBA and would probably take a couple years to develop a consistent 3 pt shot. Porter is approximately same age as Dame and CJ, and also same experience level.

I guess the question is are you willing to bet future flexibility on it?

I'm wondering if the move might be to throw Little into the fire as the starting SF.

Dump Harkless and his contract with future 2nds to open up the money to bring back Hood for the MLE and Aminu on a 1-year contract. Then roll with Little playing 15 minutes a game as the starting SF with Hood playing 30 minutes a game off the bench.

    Lillard (36) / Simons (12) / Turner (NO MIN!!!)
    McCollum (35) / Simons (8) / Hood (5)
    Little (15) / Hood (25) / Layman (8)
    Aminu (30) / Layman (12) / Labissiere (6)
    Collins (24) / Leonard (20) / Labissiere (10)

    Steven Adams is available.....

He's the perfect type of center to have next to Dame and CJ.

They could find someone cheap to start and play 15-20m at SF while Little gets his feet wet. Two guys off the top sefolosha and Luol Deng. And yes dumping Harkless to free up the money for Hood should be the priority. I just can’t see Harkless being in the teams plans with Little around, so if they’re not going to re-sign him, may as well dump him now to keep Hood around.

Too me that would be taking a back seat. I thought the Blazers where a team ready to win now or are they not?

The blazers are screwed if they have to rely on Layman playing at all, much less
minutes a game. He showed last year once teams had some tape on him he disappeared on offense and was a major liability on defense.

Another thing about potentially dumping Harkless, we probably wouldn’t need to attach a first to make it happen. Maybe a second. If he were a FA I think he would get more than the tax MLE. I mean shit look at how much Hezonja got last summer (1 yr/$6.5M) Its not like the market is littered with servicable 26 year old wings either and the ones that are (Barnes, Middleton, Tobias) are gonna get a hell of a lot more than $11M. I’d rather have Moe for one year at $11M (plus bird rights) than spend $80M or whatever on Harrison Barnes.

A backseat? Huh? If Little can shoot, he's just as good as Harkless already.
