so what’s really next? I’m assuming Bazemore is Hoods replacement. So with Hood gone, and his replacement settled, who would you target in free agency with the tax MLE? Do we still try and dump Moe/Meyers to open the full MLE for someone not named Hood, and if so, who? I think a power forward that can space the floor will be the priority either way.
I think you still have to try to bring back Hood. Dump Harkless to do it. We'd have Hood, Baze, and Nas as SFs.
Seems like a luxury and leaves power forward to guys playing out of position and some cheap vets. If they were to clear out the full MLE it would make more sense to go after someone like Mirotic or Brook Lopez, depending on where they envision Zach.
I've been searching Blazer rumors and there's not much out there but one article said we'd been talking with DeAndre Jordan...which would mean Enes is gone but it's probably just editorial fishing for material rumor fodder
If quick is right and the team is looking to turn the page on Aminu as a starter, I can’t see him coming back unless like nobody pays him. I don’t know how much $8M per would cost with tax, but it’s too much to justify for a backup.
Chief needs to go, it’s time. Him and ET were the two most frustrating players to watch last season imo.
I guess it somewhat depends on how they view Labissiere going into this season. If they think he can play you still have Zach, Skal, Meyers as bigs an Layman and Nas as small-ball 4s. Would need to sign a backup big. It also depends on Nurk's recovery. You could get away with it for a month or so but anything longer would start to really hurt the team, and the likelihood of one of our bigs getting hurt grows and we'd have nothing to replace them with. Portland's priced out of Lopez and Mirotic though, so at that point it'd likely be bringing Aminu back for his bird rights, not dumping Harkless, and using the Tax-MLE.
Correct. There's no way we can pay Jordan what he wants (which will be over $10M). We've been linked to him before and keep getting linked to these Centers (remember Marc Gasol?)
I'm not presuming Hood's gone, either, although this helps lessen the blow if that does occur. What it doesn't address is the need for another ballhandler.
I’ll resign Aminu on a one year deal only. This is under the premise that there will be a team willing to take one of our many large expirings at the deadline for some or a small asset. Since luxury tax isn’t calculated until the end of the season, it gives us some maneuverability when it comes to getting under the tax so that Aminu doesn’t cost 2 times what his salary actually is. I’m thinking like a 1year 12 million contract or 2 yr /24 million with a team option on the second year.
