No, racism does not require power although it usually involves the use of power. I once knew a Vietnamese guy who hated Blacks. He certainly had no power but he was a damned racist. Funny thing is that I know Whites who hate Vietnamese.
Me? I only have hostility toward racists. I do not tolerate it in my presence whoever practices it. I once slugged a guy for denigrating my wife while not knowing I was right behind him. I wouldn't tolerate it if it was your wife or sister or mother or aunt or any other minority's loved female. I might let a little go by if the victim were a man but if it got to be too much I would stand up and be counted even if I had to raise my fist. Hopefully, every man in here would do the same.

We disagree on the definition of racism. You're referring to the Merriam Webster's dictionary definition. That was written BY the racists.

The Vietnamese guy was prejudiced against black people. There's a difference.

    No, I'm not quoting Webster.
    Must be a generational thing.

No, most people define racism as simply hating another of a different skin tone. There's much more to it than that.

Like it or not the definitions of words depends on large numbers of people who accept the meaning. Personal preferences not so defined are reserved as persoan preferences.

    Right.

Nobody black believes racism is defined that way. You know, the people that experience it at varying degrees daily?

It's not only "hey black guy, I hate you".

I've been keenly aware of racism for the last 60 years. I'll bet that's longer than you. And yes, I've experienced it while in Vietnam and Korea and I've seen my wife and friends subjected to it. I think I know pretty well what it is when I see it.

Nor can I deny a black person those things. Power, like you said, is the only thing that allows one to take those things from people. There are plenty of white people in dire circumstances that you probably wouldn’t consider victims of racism.

Trayvon's only error was, Dad did not teach him; You don't do whoop ass on the neighborhood watch.
Of course, you might need to expect the unexpected when you go there on anyone.

They should get the republicans back in the building and then go ahead and pass the climate bill after all.

    STFU.

He was targeted because he was black and had a hoodie on.

He did NOTHING but defend himself from a GROWN MAN that shouldn't have been chasing him in the first place!

And that grown man got away with murder.

That will NEVER happen to a white person.

You will never be targeted for "being in the wrong neighborhood"....

And that is one of the many privileges it is to be white in America.

    True, true and true.
The culprit ought to be behind bars making little rocks out of big rocks for the rest of his life. It makes me angry every time I have to live it again.

I know you will not listen but I will tell you anyway how the Neighborhood watch works. My neighbors and I, implemented the same in our neighborhood nearly 20 years ago now. We did so because we have no police patrols and any protection we have will be provided by us.

People work together to keep track of traffic and people in and out of the neighborhood. One key aspect is that we know everyone that lives here, who is here, and who is out for awhile. When new people move in, they are introduced to the Neighborhood watch. All realtors know to do this and most people that do watch check out the new people.

Trayvon moves into the neighborhood and he is not introduced to the watch or the neighborhood. So he is unknown. He would likely survive the discovery if he had known not to go whoop ass on the neighborhood watch. Perhaps he did take offense at being watched, perhaps black people are offended by the concept. Perhaps the size of the watchman emboldened him, a fatal mistake. It was not a good idea to go whoop ass.

Yes, we have a neighborhood watch, even though there are hardly any black people in the county. The watch works the same though.

The POLICE told him NOT TO FOLLOW. Your argument is void.

You know what Marazul don't fucking talk to me about this anymore. You will never be hunted, chased down, and killed because you "look suspicious".
