I think Hood was signed with Non-Bird rights. Once all the smoke clears, we could have another addition to our team.

Hood was signed with T-MLE. Also we picked up about 5M in salary in the Whiteside deal, I don't know what the money situation is but I think we're hard capped now?

I think he was resigned with Non-Bird rights, leaving us with the full Tax MLE intact.

Are we? Seems like we swapped out Moe, Meyers, and Aminu for Whiteside and Hood. I’m no cap expert though.

    That is what this says:

    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/portland-trail-blazers/cap/

But I don't think that is correct. Non-bird only allows you to give 120% of his previous contract which would have been around 4.5 million, not 8 million. Quick said it was the TMLE at 5.7, that makes more sense.

Also, this link says we're at 142M. I don't understand how the deal goes through since we're hardcapped?

We are not hard capped. The hard cap only comes into play if you s&t for a player, or use the regular mle.. since we've done neither, we can continue to add $$

    Sweet.

Sneaky underlying implication of this deal: Blazers took on 5M in salary, which is like 15M in luxury taxes. Means Jodi is okay with spending the $$$. That was one of the biggest fears for fans when PA left....

I'm still confused on the hood deal. I imagine we used the tax MLE for it, but the initial reporting of it being 16 million seems weird. Did woj ever correct the details on it?

No, he didn't, but I think it's pretty clear that he was incorrect.

Woj never corrected it, which is probably why Spotrac never corrected it. The tax MLE makes sense though.

Nitpick, if we used the 3.623M BAE we're also hard-capped at the apron 138,928,000.

The most we could have offered Hood without using the MLE to sign him is $4.16 million. He was signed for more than that so we 100% had to use the MLE to do so.

Spotrac is going off of what Woj was reporting but that is obviously wrong because we would be hard capped and wouldn't have been able to make the Whiteside trade.

So unofficially we officially used the Tax-MLE to sign Hood. It has to be this way. No other explanation works.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Neil keep a 14 man roster until the deadline and have the rest 2 way contracts like Hoard ....can you have 3 of those or 2?

No, that isn't right either. There wouldn't be a cap hold for more than we can sign him for. His cap hold was $4.16 million.

Spotrac put the numbers reported by Woj, which after the Whiteside trade has to be wrong.

You can have two 2-way players that can be with the team for 45 days (not games) of the regular season.

It doesn't make sense to only have a 14 man roster when Nurk is already out leaving us with only 13 guys for practices and depth.

good point....I was thinking it was 190% of his salary

but that brings up another question, at least for me it does: if Portland would have had 10M in cap-space, would his cap-hold had increased to the 190% level?
