It’s a dreadful deal. Porter and LaVine are already too much and you are throwing an almost certain top 10 pick?

That team with Westbrook wouldn’t get past 35 wins.

Does it really make sense for Chicago though? They're trying to build with Markkanen, Carter and White. Where's the value to them in dealing for Westbrook?

    Westbrook / Dunn
    Satoransky / White
    Roberson
    Lauri / Thad
    Carter Jr / Gafford

That makes the playoffs in the east

They’d still have all 3? Westbrook takes them to the next level. They mesh skill set wise.

Not a chance. That’s an awful team. Current OKC team looks stronger.

Actually East is pretty weak. But still Bucks, Pacers, Celtics, Sixers, Nets and Raptors even without Kawhi are better than that team.

I also don't see the value of trading Skal for Spellman either even if he hadn't been traded.

Portland Trail Blazers have quietly loaded up for the Western Conference

Most of the attention in the western conference during this absolutely insane NBA offseason has gone to the California teams – the Lakers adding Anthony Davis and striking out elsewhere, the Warriors losing Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala and DeMarcus Cousins and of course the Clippers forming a superteam of their own with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. However, rather quietly, the Portland Trail Blazers – who I remind you are fresh off an appearance in the Western Conference Finals – have retooled their team and are ready to make another deep run in the playoffs.

Last year’s run was aided by two extremely beneficial mid-season acquisitions, center Enes Kanter and wing Rodney Hood. Both were role players who ended up playing significant minutes during the playoffs; Kanter thanks to a late-season injury to starter Jusuf Nurkic and Hood simply because he showed up and filled the role of athletic scorer off the bench – something Portland was desperately missing for most of the season.

However, Portland didn’t want to wait until midseason to re-shape their roster again. After proclaiming that there would not be any fireworks at the start of free agency, Blazers general manager Neil Olshey oversaw seven players depart via free agency or trade, and brought in five new players. So much for no fireworks.

    Thank you for the clarification.

I do agree with you — and for me — it’s not just about Nurk.

With PG and G Hayward I would’ve made them sit out longer than they did. I tend to be extra cautious.

If we didn’t have Whiteside I’d be more inclined to throw his ass out there earlier.

As mentioned, I agree with everything you said, and you’re right. Just personally I’d like to see him sit out as long as *reasonably* possible, although I highly doubt that would ever happen.

I have a personal belief that players and teams typically rush back to the court as soon as possible and I prefer they’d be a little more cautious — but this are multi million dollar investments so I can’t entirely blame them.

I’m sure there are tons of transactions that are handled by verbal agreements, however the multiple billions of dollars of Real Estate we own and have developed all along the West Coast, South America, throughout Asia and the new Silk Road — all have written contracts in place — as well as the hotels we have developed in Belize and elsewhere.

Our lawyers would chew into our ass if we hired someone and they didn’t have a detailed scope of work, particularly in the event of a) injury b) the work not being done to our satisfaction or c) a dispute between the agreed upon scope of work.

I never lectured you about your business practices. I said you’ve been burned multiple times, haven’t adjusted, and then you say you don’t do it not out of idealistic purposes but something else — which is exactly why you do it if you’re complaining about being burned. Also, it’s laughable that you’d question my knowledge of the industry, I’m certainly not the smartest, but I’ll leave it at that. You can get into whatever pissing match you want, I don’t need to get into it with you.

You’re also comparing a burst pipe — with multi million dollar contracts (in the NBA). Yeah, if a pipe burst, sure — probably not entirely necessary to have a contract in place.

If your whole house got decimated, I think you’d probably have a different tune — which is more in line with the value of a multi million dollar contract than burst pipe.

As for your final statement — I wouldn’t trade CJ away prior to having Kawhi in the room with us ready to sign on the dotted line. And you’re also comparing a semi-scrub the spurs traded away to CJ now, which is another false equivalence. If we traded CJ prior to July 6th, then played some stupid waiting game, guess what? I’d be pissed at Olshey for doing the dumbest thing on the planet — taking someone at their word — with them not ready to “show me the money.”

A great example of this would be what the Blazers did with Kanter — time to piss or get off the pot.

So maybe other people might have a hissy fit, but not me... my ire would be directed at the Blazers for “taking someone’s word” over their actions.

(Id also be fine if the Blazers agreed to a trade prior to July 6th that was due to be consummated on the 6th or shortly thereafter, and pulled out at the last minute based on the new information of Kawhi pulling out. Or any other team.)

Also — not trying to change your perspective — an old dog doesn’t learn new tricks.

Just wanted to drop by and say, Rodney Hood is going to be really good next year. Think he could average 16/4/3 type numbers. His confidence combined with getting more open looks than ever should bode well for us.

I remember his second year he was seen as one of the best up and comers in the league. Would be surprised if he actually got worse. Seems like an obvious case of wrong situations. Hope he starts at the 3 opening night.

with Nurk out, Hood is gonna be our best post offense option. He’s gonna get a lot of looks.

Believe me compared to Europe you are not rushing them back at all. In Europe Nurk would be available for training camp lol
