Since we're talking about minimum salaries - I guess for another point guard I'd take Livingston, maybe Burke. And for another big I'd take Noah or Faried. Pau on the minimum isn't that bad either, good guy to have on the team. Wouldn't surprise me though if a few of those guys got over the min. My first priority would be getting another big. Skal I don't think is ready for primetime. Zach hasn't shown he can stay in the game due to fouls, let alone play consistently well while he's in there and he needs to bulk up a bit. They won't have Nurk and Aminu, the two starters, or Kanter or Leonard, and so far they've replaced all of those guys with only Whiteside and Tolliver. Pretty concerning up front to be honest but I'm sure they're fully aware and looking to do something.
If this was a bunch of 22year Olds that sounds great. With Dame CJ we don't need off the court player leadership.
This is Skal what 4th year? If the minutes become available I think we need to give him a chance to be a 10 mpg big. If he sucks so much he can't handle occasional games of that then cut him and sign one of the better dleague bigs.
^ I agree. My guess is he can handle 8-10 minutes a half. Hopefully they have seen enough of him to have a more educated guess. But like you say it is time for him to get his chance.
I’ve been doing some digging as well and this is the guy that made the most sense at PG the more I kicked it around
Going back into what else we're missing: With Lebron/Kawhi/PG all in our path in the west, and Giannis/KD/Simmons/Butler in the east, a versatile wing defender seems to be a glaring weakness on our roster right now. For all their faults, Harkless and Aminu were two of our better defenders and we have effectively replaced them with Hood and Bazemore. Even ET was useful against Harden/Millsap etc on occasion. Baze is good enough to battle guys like Harden, but the LA trio are just too big for him. Hood doesn't have the speed or strength to defend much. Little isn't ready yet. This defender isn't available in FA anymore. And Gallo isn't the answer either. Really wonder if CHI would part with Porter. Jerami Grant woulda been perfect. Coulda defended 2-4 well.
Of all the potentially available pieces that have been discussed, it seems Robert Covington is the best possible fit for this role. NO clue what it would take to get him though.
I'm so tired... It took me a good 20 minutes this morning to understand why you were bumping like every thread. heh.
Baze/Skal/Trent for RoCo/Dieng or Baze/Zach for RoCo/Dieng both work. I assume both of those are seen in this forum as overpays on our part, but are they really?
I'm not including Zach in a deal for RoCo, the first one-- sure. Minny has a ton of wings. Covington/Wiggins/Culver/Okogie/Layman/KBD. Something has to give.
It's kind of disappointing when looking at trades because of this. We had a few good sized contracts for trades previously, in Harkless, leonard, Aminu. Now, it's basically over 20 or under 5.
Even re-signing Layman for a 1+1 around 5-7 mil/yr woulda been useful simply as a trade chip for the deadline. I suppose they did that with Hood.
