If Nurk is fully healthy, I would love that deal.

CHI is going nowhere this year and if Harrison Barnes was any indication, Porter is going to opt out next summer. CHI would prolly love to take a pick back for him instead of letting him walk or paying him a massive extension. His fit is absolutely perfect with us and we need a guy with his skills. It's no surprise that we were after him last year-- really think he should be our #1 target before he hits FA next year.

Blazers would still be dealing with the same issue in 2020-21 though:

    Damian Lillard $31,626,953
    CJ McCollum $29,354,152
    Jusuf Nurkić $14,138,889
    Zach Collins $5,406,255
    Anfernee Simons $2,252,040
    Nassir Little $2,316,240
    Gary Trent $1,663,861
    Andrew Nicholson $2,844,429
    Anderson Varejão $1,913,345
    Otto Porter $28,489,239 (player option)

    Rodney Hood $10,000,000 (estimate)

that's about 130M, and it's only for 9 players. Portland would have to add 5 more. Their 2020 first would put them at 132-133M, still needing to add 4 players. That's only 6M below the projected tax line (and no Bazemore)

that means Portland would be a tax team for the 3rd straight season; meaning they'd be in repeater tax territory in the first year of Dame's super-max. And by the way, CJ will be on a new deal at the same time and Olshey could easily be enough of a dipshit to give CJ a max extension which would be about 40M a season

now, Porter could solve that dilemma by opting out and signing elsewhere, meaning he'd be a 30-40 game rental. If he re-signs in Portland it will start just about at the level of his PO. And then, if Olshey does give CJ a huge contract (and he's enough of a CJ fanboy to do it), The Blazers would be sitting on 120M/year in salary for 3 players (Dame 49M; CJ 40M; Porter 30M) Add in Nurkic and the Blazers would be well over 130M for 4 players when the tax line would be moving between 140-150-M. That's so far beyond financially sustainable the distance back to reality is measured in parsecs.

Right now, Portland has 3 of the lowest level max contracts and they are 11M over the tax line...and there are legitimate questions about their depth and roster weaknesses. They are headed for one supermax and CJ + Porter will be getting close to intermediate max contracts. I really don't think the Blazers can carry 3 guys on max deals, especially when one is a super-max

in other words, those expiring contracts of Whiteside and Bazemore might actually have more value to Portland than to any other team. I could easily be wrong, but I think those expecting one of Whiteside/Bazemore to be leveraged into an upgrade will see the Blazers get the same return from those expiring contracts that they got from Crabbe's TPE

    Really.
Couldn't they get Olajuwon to come out of retirement? He'd have more impact than Chandler.

Last year the Lakers were so excited to get him from Phoenix. And in his first game for them he made some great plays down the stretch of the game.
But that was about it. He looked terrible after that for the simple fact he just can't move anymore. I guess he can still set a screen.....

It doesn't have to be him specifically, any player with his numbers and skills.

Chandler is a nothing player at this point. He’s not capable of seriously contributing for a winning team.

I don’t get why some people think OKC will buy Paul out. It’s almost impossible. It would have been possible and maybe even probable if that could change his cap hit but that is not the case. He will still cost them full amount cap wise.

First decent move Houston has made this summer. Not joking.

Isn’t the future salary removed from the team totals after a buyout?

    not that I know of

if a player has a 3 year deal paying him 30M a year and he gives back a total of 15M in a buyout, he has a 3 year deal paying him 25M/year. That's what is on the team cap. If he signs with another team, I think 50% of what he signs for comes off the cap of his original team. Maybe the new CBA raised that to 100%, but I don't think so

OKC (or any other team), isn't going to be buying CP3 out this year or the next. That's just way too much dead salary on the books

As stupid as this is, I've had multiple conversations with multiple NBA and non-NBA fans alike, they all agree: Harkless is very attractive.

    Apparently Dame is ugly. LOL.

I wonder which team could be in search of frontcourt depth?
