I guess I have some sympathy with Aldridge because I was once in a situation where I had a job that was good for many years, then some real problems developed. I was offered a transfer, not within the company, my original plan, but an affiliate elsewhere. Turned out to be a disaster. Now, the Spurs are not a hellhole and I'm sure LA was not abused or lied to or faced illegal working conditions. But I tried, several times, to return without success, then the new job threw me away like garbage, found another, crappy, job, and finally retired. So I'm OK now but I kicked myself for, in the face of what were real issues, bailing. Perhaps Aldridge is realizing Portland is/was his best environment. If he can recognize the team runs through Dame, and wants to return, and the Blazers don't have to give up a ton for him, I'm all for it. He's got some good years left.

Agreed. I doubt he wants (or is up to) the responsibility. Perfect third fiddle who provides a threat the other team has to respect

I wouldn't have a problem getting Aldridge back as he is very talented and would make us stronger as he is a proven commodity. Like you mentioned though, it would depend on the cost.

I would not trade a 1st in any deal for him. I also would not include Collins. I can’t stand LMA.

The Phoenix Suns were in the mix...

    Fuck that turncoat... :smiley-hvala:

We shouldn't trade one asset for him.

If he wants to return, come back in free agency like when you left.

I would do it and give up 1 first but not three.

    Like everyone else, no way.
I personally value Whiteside more than LMA (especially given the contracts).

Baze + Skal + Picks is too high of price for DeRozan. His mid-range game would just clog the floor on offense.

That would definitely be an overall talent upgrade for this squad, but fit would still be an issue. We'd still be looking at a team with very little outside shooting, which would seem to be difficult to rely on in this day and age.

I'm loath to give out a pick 5 years into the future, but if it were just 2 picks, I'd probably take the gamble. Opposing teams really couldn't double Dame with CJ/Derozan/LA/Nurk alongside him--too many other scoring threats (even if not from beyond the arc). Derozan could also act in a point-forward role; I didn't realize he averaged over 6 assists a game last year. He could definitely be a secondary (tertiary?) initiator of the offense to allow Dame to play off the ball. Simons/Hood/Hezonja/ZC is a pretty decent bench too--lots of versatility there, I think.

Yeah, I think a couple firsts is not a terrible cost for a 2-year gamble on that kind of talent upgrade.

Try for one, settle for two, say no to three.

Adding Aldridge and Derozan to this team would be scary good and as good as anyone in the league.

Line up (once all are healthy)

    Lillard
    McCollum
    Derozan
    Aldridge
    Nurkic

That's a starting lineup of 5 all star or near all star level players

Rotation players: Collins, Simons, Hood, Hezonja, Trent jr

Pick up a minimum salary back up center and that's one scary lineup and as good as anyone in the league. The main drawback is adding more salary and needing to pick up a couple min salary players to fill out the roster, but that's a Jody Allen decision.

The contracts are essentially the same except Aldridge has one more year which I look at as an advantage. If by the trade deadline the following season things aren't working out then he can be moved.
