My expectation for Simons is a similar kind of impact as Curry last year. About 10 pts, decent shooting, and serviceable on offense. Simons is a better creator for himself but Curry is a better shooter and defender, but overall contribution should be about the same. It's not too much to ask . That said, it's kinda crazy that of the guys we lost to FA, he is the one who got most $. Aminu started for us for all but 3 out of the 4 seasons he was here, but Curry still got more. Shooting pays.
Tolliver needs to be on the poll. He will get regular rotation minutes if the roster remains as is. He might be our best shooter % wise this season.
This thread has "Bump" written all over it. I agree that Little won't be playing. I seldom ever consider rookies as part of the equation for their first year. Especially one and done scenarios. But you guys are sleeping on Mario. He can shoot and he will be getting minutes. Keep in mind with Curry, he didn't even average 20 minutes per game. Sure he will be missed off the bench, but as a 2nd team unit, shooting is better this year with Hood, Simons, Mario and either Skal or Tollbert. As for the starters it all comes down who replaces Aminu who was a very one dimensional shooter for us. Yes he could get hot when left unguarded, but I find it hard to believe Zach can't match it. And Baze is a better all around shooter than Hark.
He has to be a backup Pg/scoring guard. You think he’s that far behind a playoff-caliber, 20mpg back up to Dame and CJ? Edit: and by that I mean, “with 82 more games under his belt would he be that far behind?”
Thanks for the stats. Harkless sure did dunk a lot. Not the flashy kind, just rising up and stuffing the ball. I wonder how that might compare to Hezonja in terms of affecting their shooting percentage? I'd guess Harkless got a lot more shots at the rim? Either way, neither are shooters. Seems like kinda a wash.
OK, so I suppose if we had a low-post scoring 4 that could pass out well, that might be the great equalizer here?
My hope is that consistent minutes and acclimating to his role will allow Hood to become the guy he was in Utah. I'm expecting about 13-15 ppg from him and decent efficiency from 3. Hopefully, Baze also regains his form in his contract year and gets his 3pt% back closer to the high 30s. Think the more apt comparisons are: Curry vs Simons Turner vs Hood Harkless vs Baze Layman vs Tolliver Aminu vs Zach Kanter vs Whiteside In aggregate, we are prolly better now, but losing some really specialized skills. The Layman vs Tolliver thing is eating at me more than anything.
I kind of think were doing this wrong. Baze / Hood will be better offensively than ET / Harkless. Zach will be better offensively than Aminu was. Tolliver will be better as a back up 4 offensively than Zach was last year. Offensively I think they got better in terms of guys who got the minutes last year vs guys who will get those minutes this year. Defensively I think they get worse, BUT whiteside / Zach and Nurkic / Zach should be a good defensive pairing.
I think we got a little better offensively and defensively, considering the different roles players like Zach and others will get
I think he has the potential to do more than Curry did last year. Time will tell if that is realistic. I'm less concerned about his shooting than I am about his defense--to which I have a great concern.
For those who think it's an Downgrade: maybe it's an downgrade from a talent stand point, who knows, maybe you right, but let's face reality: whats going to happen in the Playoffs with Aminu, Harkless, Turner etc?? We all know the movie, Teams give a shit about these players and double team Lillard to death, while Aminu, Harkless and Turner stay in the corner watching, i wont miss any of them, they're unplayable in the Playoffs, they have one good game out of 5, i'm not going to miss Evan Turner's 10 total points in the first 7 Playoff games or Aminus and Harkless' bricks when they shot wide open 3s
