CJ signing an extension and Ant getting traded in the future are not connected logically. CJ could still be traded in a year or two if Ant blows up. Having him under contract for those extra years makes that more easy to do than if CJ was nearing the end of his contract. There's also the possibility of keeping all three and using a three guard lineup. Kerr insists that Russell isn't trade bait and that they plan on playing Curry, Thompson and Russell going forward once Klay returns. Ant could certainly take the same role that Klay would in that kind of lineup.
Again, I don't think his contract is un-tradable. It's just this reinforces my belief that Olshey will never split the Dame/CJ pairing. Barring a season where we win like 30 games or something.
Lovely. When Nurk comes back to his old self - and another year of growth for Zach / Ant - this team is going to be dangerous. If Nurk returns in good shape in the 2nd half of the season and one of Zach / Ant breaks out - this team is going to be dangerous this year.
Neil has been nuclear this offseason. I hope he continues in 2020. We need good moves to make the final step
I think this is a great move overall. Just hope we can afford Nurk, Ant and Collins when they become all stars.
82M a year for Dame/CJ is better than 89M. There's also the fact that now, there's an appropriate and realistic salary gap between what CJ will be making and what Dame will be making that matches their productions....at least for the last 3 years of CJ's deal. It's still a lot of money for the two of them but, this sure makes it more financially awkward to add a 3rd highly paid player to the Blazers. It's Dame/CJ all the way as the 'top-2' and, IMO, that's not going to be good enough to win a title
Okay, 6th man of the year demanding 18-20 mill per. Was a kinda tongue and cheek statement with some underlying truthful concerns.
Looking at the salaries being paid in the NBA today, this is a good deal. Also, it is a very tradable contract. Imagine paying him Chris Middleton's money. That would be sick ... seriously sick. Compare this to Russ + Harden money. Or Kawhi + Paul money ... NBA salaries are just sick ... damned. These guys are swimming in money.
Guy can collapse a defense better than anyone. Hopefully now We Got Shooters he'll kick it out for some easy Trey's.
Does anyone know if this was the max we could have offered him? I know Beal was eligible for 3/111 but I don't know if Beal and CJ are on the same timeline. Does this save us money during Dame's 1st year of the supermax?
I LOVE it! CJ is a great player and I think this puts us in a great position for the next 2-3 years. Our championship window is officially open.
I'm not sure the exact answer to your question dollar-wise, but with the cap increases each year this definitely is less than what he could've potentially been offered next summer or when he was an actual free agent.
Sorry to disappoint you, I could make up numbers if you want but until the 2020-21 and 2021-22 salary cap numbers are announced those summers it's just a guess.
