That above isn't about mass shootings.

Just take a look at these young, male mass shooters. Look at them.

It would appear that thoughts and prayers aren't working.

Apparently we can't fix mental illness quickly enough to stem violence either.....what we can do is take away the fucking machine guns (yeah, I know they are called assault rifles and strangely not protection rifles)

Mass shootings are becoming the new "suicide bombings" here in America.

Our own U.S. government doesn't give a flying fuck about Americans.

There is a lot of talk about how people care about mental health (and those with disabilities, etc), but the way that we respond to these events shows that as a country (who we blame, what we clutch to our chests, etc), it shows that we really don't care.

We'll be outraged for a while, and then go back to life as though nothing happened...until it happens again (usually longer than 15 hours though).

Im not sure what to do. My brother had Downs which put me on a path where Ive volunteered for groups that worked with mentally and physically disabled for as long as I can remember. My 4 year old is active in our groups where we help mentally and physically disabled people. Were active in that community and I love working with them. I know many foster homes for the disabled (both kids and adults). What does that work really do though...? Its not like it has stopped any of the plethora of mass shootings, has it stopped any? I don't know.

Ive known people all over the spectrum, have contacts with professionals in the area for psychiatric needs. Every time I hear the line of oh people don't care, I guess it bothers me because I know many people who do care.

Mental Health issues are really hard to diagnose, hard to recognize who is a danger to others, who is a danger to themselves. What do you propose we do to fix it? Is it technology? Is it just throw money at programs and hope we catch more people who have issues?

I guess my first thought is we need to take semi and automatic weapons from people, citizens have no need for them. We need to make obtaining weapons hard. Obtaining a Gun of any kind should trigger mental health screenings.

The answer for mental health though, I dont really know what to do about that...

I'm referring to the country/government, not the citizens.

I don't know (it hits home for me too). I think if we can quit labeling people as "the other" might help. Fear of the other is a bad thing to begin with, but when you purposely say things to instigate people (to vote for you, cheer for you, etc), you are culpable imho.

I don't have any solutions, it's above my pay grade.

    Mental health:

Every year kids get routine physicals, unless their parents decide they don’t want to do it for whatever reason. Why don’t kids have routine mental health “physicals” that evaluate (as best as they can in an hour) any red flags? Mandatory to attend school- must have sign off from psychologist. Of course this doesn’t not eliminate the issue but how many of these guys have been setting off red flags to teachers and students as having “something off”? Most. Social media - time to hold those seeing “manifestos” accountable for not reporting. Time for Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Instagram etc to be held accountable for content. This isn’t about free speech, it’s about threats to innocent people. Fine these corporations ungodly amounts. Suspend their operations for a single day and see their value drop.
