Just hearing about this. Should I be calling back home and tell my extended family to hide the women and children?!

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/14/us/portland-planned-protests-soh/index.html

    (CNN)
Multiple far-right and extremist groups plan to protest in Portland this weekend where they may come face to face with anti-fascist counter-demonstrators.

The city's mayor has asked people to stay away, while police are preparing operational plans in case they need to intervene.....

....There are fears that the rally will attract many right-wing extremists, as well as Antifa counter-protests. (CONTINUED)

Neither group should press their luck as I bet the chief has instructed his force to come down hard and quick. If they tear up property, throw some ass's in jail and hit them with a huge fine!
Plus I would tear of their mask's if its antifa and show their faces.

There seems to be a couple of groups that do this in Portland about once a month.

This never would have happened if people didn't tear the city apart after Trump won. They turned this city into a battleground.

It's a problem but the media overdoes it.

Right after Trump was elected, the protest and destruction was awful.

Since then, there have been some run ins but nothing i've seen as bad as the media makes it out to be.

Fair enough, I have no first-hand experience with it so I can't say, but was just pointing out that these two groups yelling at each other on the weekends seems pretty commonplace lol.

Didn’t Bush or somebody back in the day call Portland “Little Beirut” ? Hasn’t this type of thing been going on here for decades?

This does have the possibility to be another Charlottesville, but the more likely outcome is that the increased police presence will work and violence will be minimal.

Either way, I'm not going downtown Saturday.

We have been a bastion of liberal politics for decades. But the outright violent protests are a new thing. Only in the last few years really.

We had some anti Iraq War protests back in the early 2000s as well.

I'm actually against all of the protests. Dont let them demonstrate. Dont let anyone.

    Losers, all of them.

I hope the police fuck up the protestors and demonstrators that get out of line, cause noise and chaos, block streets, etc.

As @Natebishop3 pointed out, the main reason Portland has become a “battleground” is because after the election, liberal Portland city government (and by extension its’ police department) allowed a bunch of morons of all stripes to act out and engage in destructive behavior. Voila’!! Instant international attention, not only for Portland, but for the media who covered it. The protests since then have been relatively mellow, despite what the media on both sides of the divide have tried to stir up. This time around, city government and other civic groups have made it clear that NONE of the protestors are welcome or supported and should stay away. Personally, I think the gas to the fire is applied by the media, left and right. It gives them something to write about, and if there are no confrontations or violence, then no one will take the time to read about it. The story has become more manufactured than real, and I’d like to think that this time around the police won’t be quite as inclined to sort out who the “good” guys are and who the “bad” guys are if/when the violence and destruction begins. Shitheads are shitheads, regardless of their politics, and all they do is get in the way of solutions that benefit the majority. Maybe if the media ignored them they would pack up their shit and go play elsewhere......

Disorderly conduct should not be tolerated or it will continue to happen and fester, besides giving our city a bad rap.

You really think this is why right wing extremists like the proud boys are invading portland every other month? Because a handful of anarchists (not antifa) created damage in the city across the river from them? Seems odd.

Yes. That's exactly why. You think they randomly decided that Portland was a good spot? We made national news with our riots after Trump was elected. We made ourselves a target because these guys are coming here to counter-protest and fight the "libtards." There are plenty of other liberal cities they could have chosen, but we're the only ones with these protests going on consistently. And they have been going on since before Trump was elected. Before it was Black Lives Matter.

But Antifa are considered the counter-protesters

But in this case, can you show me a conservative protest that took place before antifa started causing problems here?

Antifa are feeding the Proud Boy trolls who would have stopped coming here if they weren't getting so much attention from Antifa. City Council are afraid of the progressive voters who live vicariously through Antifa's nonsense. I live a half mile from where this all goes down. Fuck all these losers. I hope Russia accidentally nukes them all.
