With 24 hours until the first Australia v USA warm-up game, the Americans have engaged in some good banter. Pop said that he threatened to cut Patty if he didn't give Pops the Australian game plan, so Patty sent it to the whole USA team. Pops was also disappointed with former NBA Champion Spur Andrew Gaze for not sending him any wine. Donovan Mitchell also got in on it; when asked by Australian reporters if he was going to dunk on teammate Joe Ingles, he said JIngles would foul him before that because old man Joe can't get up that high anymore, and guessed that his age is 55. All good fun stuff.

There has been a bit of controversy with some fans demanding refunds due to the number of player withdrawals. Specifically they revolve around the fact that the promotional material included images of players who are not participating. They have submitted complaints to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Who knows what impact this will have on attendance numbers, and atmosphere within the stadium.

Speaking of the stadium, below is what it looked like just last Sunday, so it will be interesting to see the transformation. Ignore the standard of football, the Hawks are a mid-table team, and the Suns are bottom, and as bad as any team in years. Good to see Roughead come back from cancer, and kick a bag in the last home game of his career though.

    Australia - 86
    USA - 102

Well done. Both teams with a lack of cohesion, and the Americans greater skills and athleticism showed through. I’m very disappointed by the Aussie lack of cohesion because many of these players have played together before, and I expected better.

Gotta say, I liked what little I was able to see in the highlights from that Chris Goulding cat. Seems like he's got a little Steve Blake in him.

That is one low bar, especially for a 30 yr old.

Just saying he appears to play with fire. Per his wiki, he's apparently one of the best players in the NBL. Multiple-time scoring leader, first team, etc. Not saying he's NBA-caliber, but not saying he isn't either.

Style wise I’d say he’s more similar to JJ Redick. A shooter running round screens, although he’s probably slightly better at generating his own shot.

The knock on Goulding is that he’s a streaky shooter. He can win you a game if he gets hot, and he can lose you one if he’s cold, and the coach doesn’t rein him in.

Playing in that stadium must have been terrible. There is a reason basketball stadiums are not that big. I also saw some pics of the view of 300$ tickets, there was no view actually.

I have no sympathy for anyone complaining about the view. It was obvious that the viewing was going to be terrible. The crowd also made a very poor effort of cheering Australia on. I’ve heard more noise at that stadium from a 20,000 football crowd.

Why it was obvious? I cannot imagine they informed people they wouldn't be able to watch the players even from VIP seats. As for cheering if i was not able to watch the game least of my worries would be cheering for the team.

    How is this ok?

What i don't get is why this crap? They needed the money so badly?

Because it’s an Australian Football stadium. The ground is oval shaped, and 159.5 metres long by 128.8 metres wide. The first two sections were always going to be either at the same level as the court or lower. And the raised sections further back were always going to be too far away to see properly. People knew the dimensions of the stadium before they bought tickets, so it was obvious that viewing was going to be poor. It’s like buying tickets to watch the Suns, then complaining that they suck.

Team USA are in a box at the Melbourne Cricket Ground watching the Australian Football League match between Collingwood, and Essendon, in front of over 84,000.

I hope we keep them up late, and keep the drinks flowing. :devilwink:

Just joking, Pop is also there, and I know he won’t let that happen.

What you say doesn't make sense. I am not talking about the cheap tickets. I am talking about the expensive ones that are close to court but nobody from Australia Federation thought or cared about the fact that if they are all on same level then those that are not in front will not have clear view of the court. I am not talking about distance, but visibility of the court. They couldn't even see it!
This is probably the most disgusting basketball stuff i have seen in a long time. Just stealing money.
