Preface: In NO way is this a trade rumor, or such. Simply a summer discussion fodder piece from our friends @ Fansided. https://swarmandsting.com/2019/09/08/charlotte-hornets-active-trade-talks/ The Charlotte Hornets have been nothing short of disappointing in their last three years. They have been projected to make the playoffs by most people for all three of those years and have fell short. Some fans began to clamor for a full rebuild, even proposing the idea of trading All-Star Kemba Walker in order to jumpstart the rebuild. At the time, with his trade value being so high, the return for him would have been an excellent way to begin the team’s overhaul......... ........I would look at teams like the Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics, or even the LA Clippers to eye Marvin and MKG with their lack of depth at the power forward position. If you’re the Charlotte Hornets, it is worth looking into what the returns for these useful players could be.
Marvin as “maybe” a back up PF, MKG no. Really what makes Charlotte Mediocre is that all their players are mediocre. heh, good teams aren't looking to Charlotte to get “better”, they may look at one of their young guys as potential but thats about it...
Speaking of which, I was at my nephew's 31st birthday party last night, and the consensus of most of the guys was that the Blazers are bad-bad...and were completely lucky to get as far as they did in last season's playoffs. They applauded Dame for "being loyal", but other than him and "solid" CJ, the Blazers are just a bunch of average players, whose only success (if any) will come from over-achieving. My only response was, "We shall see." Oh, and they also have no love for "Your Oregon guy" Mariota.
No. The whole Blazers philosophy is to get Shooters, and teach them how to do other things. He is the opposite of that.
I kind of think the opposite, they get guys who cant shoot and think they can make them shooters. Harkless, Aminu, Evan Turner, Nassir Little. There is a few guys who are the opposite of that, so who knows?
In theory this is Little, but he's a few yrs away. We still have no one who even has a hope in hell in stopping the long wings in the WC. Depends on what we would give up, but I'd kick the tires.
Defense isnt played 1v1 though. Hood and Bazemore can do a good job pairing the perimeter and funneling those wings towards our two rim protectors.
I'm really sick of trade proposals that don't take into account salary. Who would the Blazers send out that makes close to MKG's salary? Nurk is the only player that would work straight up. We could combine Simons, Collins, Skal, and Little to get there. No one would ever do that. Later in the year we could do Whiteside for Marvin Williams and MKG but what would be the incentive for Charlotte to do that since all those guys are expiring anyway?
To me at this point the scheme is the scheme and apparently Stotts has to have his players Beg him to actually let them guard Steph on the Perimeter. We may miss Harkless / Moe’s ability to get back into plays and use their length and physical gifts to alter shots on occassions. I think Whiteside fits what Stotts’ scheme needs. A big who can take up a lot of space can effect shots, can meet players at the rim. He and Zach in theory should be a good defensive pairing. Im not really that worried about the defense other than the fact its still Stotts’ scheme and he is not quick to make changes if it’s not working.
I take it most of the guys at this party were casual fans of the NBA (or are now all the sudden long time Laker fans), and actually have no idea who any player on the team is outside of Damian.
