Temple's goal-line stands clutch in win over No. 21 Maryland

Anthony McFarland was already stuffed at the goal line once by Temple. With the Maryland running back needing inches again to put the Terps ahead, he should have known what was coming.

Shaun Bradley wrapped up McFarland in the backfield for one more clutch hit for Temple's defense. Bradley flexed his muscles, pounded his chest and let loose toward Temple fans howling in delight.

"It was the best feeling ever, man," Bradley said.

Kenny Yeboah had put Temple ahead on a one-handed touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter, and the Owls used two stops at the goal line -- Bradley's was one of them -- to hold off No. 21 Maryland 20-17 on Saturday.

Memphis remains undefeated with a 35-23 win over Navy

Midway through the second quarter Thursday night, everything was going Navy's way.

As usual, the Midshipmen were controlling the ball, their defense was living up to its new reputation as a stingy unit and Memphis was struggling on both sides of the ball with Navy holding a 20-7 lead.

"They looked tired on defense," Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said. "We felt like we had them right in our wheelhouse."

Things were so bad early in the third quarter, the Memphis fans were booing quarterback Brady White.

    Then things changed.

White led a second-half rally, finishing the game with 196 yards passing and three touchdowns as Memphis used big plays to defeat Navy 35-23.

Gabriel throws for 3 TDs, No. 22 UCF trounces UConn 56-21

No. 22 UCF shrugged off its first regular-season loss in nearly three years with a performance that sent a message to the rest of the American Athletic Conference.

The two-time defending league champions are hungry for a third straight title.

"Our kids are resilient," Knights coach Josh Heupel said Saturday night, after his team amassed 607 yards total offense and forced four turnovers in a 56-21 rout of Connecticut in an AAC opener that wasn't nearly as close as the final score might suggest.

Ahmad Gardner's INT return leads Bearcats to upset of UCF

As a reward for his game-turning interception, freshman cornerback Ahmad Gardner was invited to address teammates in the locker room as Cincinnati Bearcats celebrated a breakthrough win.

Nothing shy about this freshman, on the field or in front of the team.

"We brought him up to say a few words, and we had to cut him off," coach Luke Fickell said.

There was plenty to talk about after the Bearcats finally beat the team that had dominated them, taking control of the American Athletic Conference race with quite a defensive performance.

Gardner returned an interception for a go-ahead touchdown and Cincinnati clamped down on freshman quarterback Dillon Gabriel and No. 18 UCF's high-scoring offense Friday night for a 27-24 victory that ended the Knights' streak of 19 conference wins.

No. 24 SMU rallies to stay unbeaten with triple-overtime win

Not since the Pony Express days with Eric Dickerson and Craig James has SMU been undefeated this deep into a season.

Ranked for the first time in 33 years, the No. 24 Mustangs overcame a three-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter, converted six fourth downs and finally beat Tulsa 43-37 when Shane Buechele threw a 25-yard touchdown to James Proche in the third overtime Saturday night.
