The way he protects the rim it's hard to complain about Whiteside's last season in Miami, putting up 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
Hey, I hope Whiteside has a great year and helps the Blazers win a title. He’s completely capable of it. But it does concern me a little when I see comments like these from Heat fans. Open the thread and scroll down. Every Heat fan is complaining about his attitude, his lack of effort or his poor body language:
Have you not read some of the stupid ass shit some of our fans say during games? (Myself included) No I really am not concerned with his effort.
Yes, I’ve read those comments. Many of them were about Turner, Leonard, Harkless and Aminu, all of whom were shipped off to another team.
Whiteside is going to be a monster for us! He'll be renewed with energy and will play hard for Dame & mates. As we had previously pursued him as a Free Agent, I also think we may have NO intention of trading him by the deadline. He'll be happy to re-sign here and we have his bird rights (IIRC).
The only way he'll re-sign here is if he takes a MASSIVE pay cut. Like, about 20 million less per year.
My father actually had the gall to suggest to me that we should keep Whiteside and trade Nurk. He thinks Whiteside is the better player. Of course, he's a Warriors fan who lives in a bubble, and can't understand why nobody likes his team. Go figure.
Whiteside was the highest paid player on a team that was treading water. He's not mature enough to handle the blame that is associated with that. I'm not concerned about him in Portland, because... He won't be the highest paid player on the team, he won't be the 2nd highest paid player on the team, he'll be the 3rd highest paid player. The pressure is all on Dame and, to a lesser extent, CJ. He can focus on defense, because... "he's got shooters!" He's another year older/more mature, another year closer to retirement, and he's got a change of scenery. We've even seen Boogie start to grow up, so Whiteside can do it, too. He's out of the South Beach environment, and he sounds more than OK with that - another sign he's growing up. The Blazers locker room is a healthy environment, and he's excited to be here. He won't take it for granted. This is important because a healthy, motivated Whiteside is an allstar/borderline allstar. So, I think he'll do fine here, but I don't think the Heat fans are necessarily wrong. If he stayed with the Heat, they'd probably struggle (especially since they probably wouldn't have Butler).
So you think he'll be happy coming off the bench when Nurk returns then. I don't and we already saw Nurkic pouting like a baby coming off the bench in Denver so I don't think that will work either.

Kevin McHale came off the bench for the Celtics and was an impact player....if you get that going on...tag team beasting in the paint...they could be amazing playing off each other. I want our first 9 rotation guys to be owning every qtr and the end of the bench finishing blowout wins...not too much to ask for...the alley oop is back baby!
