Won't happen on a Blazer broadcast on the same channel that the Blazers play. Now if you get another sport in town or probably more like two then you have enough material to support a show that could at least cover sports year round. Then they could most likely have a way to speak their own opinions. But as it stands. Portland is a one horse town with a pack mule in the Timbers running along side. Portland needs NBA, MLB and NFL to have that kind of channel where someone can get away with "East Coast" type media coverage.
I would REALLY like to make clear that The Blazers Outsiders are NOTHING to do with Blazers Broadcasting. NOT a thing! No different than some local afternoon radio show who talks about the Blazers. Please don't associate them with what we do.
I stand corrected. But they are part of Comcast and the Blazer coverage that is being shown. They are part of the Blazers post game show. Just not "Blazer Broadcasting" as part of bringing the game to TV.
So there's only one sport to focus on but the audience doesn't want anything other than surface level fluff and homerism? You are basically saying the fans don't want to think for themselves and to feed them unicorns and rainbows. This does serve a purpose occasionally but to say in this day and age with social media that people couldn't handle a show that had both positive discussions and criticism is an outdated take. Most fans are smart enough to recognize the difference between being a negative nancy and a fair breakdown of what's going on that isn't just praising every part of the team no matter what they do.
Negative, I have a contract with the team, they pay me, NOT NBC Sports. They have no affiliation with the Blazers, other than they talk about the team. No different than whatever those Talkin ball guys did.
Blazers pre, half and postgame show and the game obviously is Blazers Broadcasting content. That’s it. Outsiders, local sports radio shows, camping and rodeo infomercials or whatever else they air is NBC Sports. Totally different.
Comcast has the contract with the Blazers. That is the only difference. It's Blazer content. They have to follow the rules or they are out. Talkin Blaa was the same way. Yes i purposely spelled the BLAA.....
Nobody anywhere ever said this? Nobody anywhere ever said this either. What has been said was a response to a comment about "East Coast" television coverage. Portland is nowhere in the league of NewYork. New Jersey, Philly, Boston. All those places have three sports at least and multiple venues to attend to. Nobody said that either. Just that the people they are directing at are not those people. Not really. You are not most fans. Actually Most fans don't care. They turn it off or go back to drinking their beer with their friends.
All I’m saying is, there is no affiliation whatsoever with these NBCSports shows and us. Other than they air on the same channel. No different that Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune both airing on Ch. 2.
Exactly what about the line of thinking is unsubstantiated? That the statements were never said? Or that Portland cannot compare to east coast TV markets? Or that Comcast is directing their TV coverage at watchers that are not as up to speed on this team as you? (Which i happen to know is fact) Or that most fans watching games don't watch the post game shows and pretty much turn them off? You are not gonna get an argument out of me that they should not be better. All i'm saying is they are fine at doing what they do. Frilly basketball coverage for those that are less adept at following the fine nuances of the team. I also just don't see a market for more complex diagnosis of the team YET! When Portland can field multiple teams in different sports i feel they will be able to have a station put together a show that can actually run year long and cover things of this nature. Just not enough material at this point. Again- This is just my opinion. Maybe in the future it will get better.
What I dont understand about your post is that you seem to have drawn a conclusion that because there is only one sports team in Portland, that we dont have a market for a, “nuanced, complex diagnosis’ of the team”. I may be misunderstanding you, but that seems like quite the logical jump to me. Of course it’ll be a niche, but in some ways sports are a niche, and basketball is a niche. Doesnt matter if you’re in LA, NY or Chicago, yes Portlands niche for that type of content may be fairly small, but I dont think it has anything to do with the amount of teams we have.
