This is gonna have massive trickle-down effects far reaching throughout the league. For us, it will be on salary caps as a result of massive revenue drops.

If you were away this wknd, here's what happened: https://www.theringer.com/nba/2019/...-kong-china-houston-rockets-tweet-controversy

China wasn't happy and cut all ties with the Rockets.

    The league chimed in:
Not particularly happy with this position for a league that has been all about free expression for its players. But with billions in limbo now, clearly $ speaks.

Then the new Nets owner chimed in with his nothing burger.

Oh, and two dem pres candidates also went against the NBA's position, and Daryl Morey might get fired.

That statement from the Nets new owner is so, so awful. Of course it comes as no surprise as he's made his fortune from a state-run company in China - but the league letting him by the first Owner to really speak out on this is a PR nightmare. This supposedly woke league is bowing to pressure from a brutally oppressive regime? They moved the all-star game because of a trumped up bathroom bill issue in NC - they can't turn around and be ok with China's actions in Hong Kong.

he's clearly trying to assume Houston's role as China's de facto NBA team.

Considering what China has done and is doing, this would be like apologizing because someone offended Hitler.

Morey is such a dumbass though... whatever you opinion on the matter is, when you are the GM of the team with the most connections with China in the league, you don't go ahead and tweet something against them

Yeah the original tweet was not a smart move at all. Wonder what he was thinking?

Also. If you read that twitter thread there are some pretty strong "American Nationalist" type responses.
Pretty much telling him that "This is America. Free speech is part of our Constitution". You got to figure this was coming also. There are quite a few that don't back the Globalists idea and what China stand for.
This situation is not over and will not be over any time soon.

Sometimes you need to learn to shut the fuck up. Especially on social media.

Maybe he feels so strongly about the situation that he is willing to risk his job. I applaud him.

This better be fake. Have a backbone, come on.

    Edit. It's real. And disappointing.

Maybe that free speech was important and that the Hong Kong protesters were in the right? Just brainstorming here.

Pressure from the NBA. He knows it's already out there.

Plus, I have no idea how he feels. I'm just speculating

Really interested in seeing how the league handles the upcoming Lakers/Nets games in Shanghai this week. Even Rachel Nichols is supposed to do her daily show on ESPN from there, and she's usually very outspoken. Considering how everyone seems to be been muzzled, I have my doubts whether she even broaches the subject from Morey's side.

Harden is desperately trying to save his sneaker sales and endorsement money from China.

When Keith Olbermann and Clay Travis are on the same side of an issue, is that a sign of the apocalypse?
