No. 14 Iowa throttles Middle Tennessee 48-3

Iowa's defense has been among the nation's best all season.

The Hawkeyes' offense joined in on the fun at just the right time, racking up more yards than it ever has under longtime coach Kirk Ferentz.

Senior Nate Stanley threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns, Toren Young added a career-high 131 yards rushing and 14th-ranked Iowa throttled Middle Tennessee 48-3 on Saturday, moving to 4-0 for the third time in 10 years.

Taylor, defense lead No. 8 Badgers past Northwestern 24-15

Jonathan Taylor has had his fair share of struggles against Northwestern. The going was tough against the Wildcats again on Saturday, but Wisconsin's Heisman Trophy contender helped the eighth-ranked Badgers stay unbeaten with some bullish yards.

Taylor ran for 119 yards and his 11th touchdown of the season, Wisconsin got two scores from its defense, and the Badgers defeated the Wildcats 24-15.

No. 19 Michigan leans on defense to beat No. 14 Iowa 10-3

Leaning on a sack-making, turnover-producing defense, No. 19 Michigan earned a desperately needed win.

Zach Charbonnet ran for a 2-yard touchdown to give the Wolverines an early double-digit lead and their defense did the rest in a 10-3 win over No. 14 Iowa, forcing four turnovers and tallying eight sacks Saturday.

Clifford leads No. 12 Penn State past Purdue 35-7

Purdue quarterback Jack Plummer took another hard sack then dragged himself to his feet. He tried to shake the pain out of his right arm before taking a slow walk to his team's locker room.

The first half was mercifully over. No. 12 Penn State cruised to a 35-7 rout of the Boilermakers, but the punishment continued in the second.

Taylor scores 5 TDs to lead No. 8 Wisconsin past Kent State

A team with a good running back and a stout defense is tough to beat. Just ask Kent State coach Sean Lewis.

Following a 48-0 loss Saturday at No. 8 Wisconsin, the 33-year-old Lewis, who played quarterback and tight end for the Badgers from 2004-07, said Wisconsin has the best running back, the best offensive line and the best defense in the country.

Fields, Dobbins lead No. 4 Ohio St over No. 25 Michigan St

Justin Fields looked less like Superman and more like a mere mortal at times against No. 25 Michigan State on Saturday night. But that was bound to happen to the Ohio State sophomore quarterback at some point this season.

The Georgia transfer, who had accounted for 23 touchdowns in his first five games as starter, ran into a stout defense, got chased around, sacked and intercepted for the first time in his college career. But he stayed cool and engineered enough explosive plays to help No. 4 Ohio State bury the Spartans.

Fields threw two touchdown passes and plunged in for another score as the Buckeyes overcame an inauspicious start to roll to a 34-10 win. J.K. Dobbins rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown and is well on his way to the best season of his Ohio State career.

No. 10 Penn State holds off No. 17 Iowa 17-12

On the road against one of the best defenses in America, 10th-ranked Penn State won the turnover battle and converted on third downs to survive yet another tough trip to Iowa.

Noah Cain ran for a 5-yard touchdown with 5:17 left and Penn State held off the 17th-ranked Hawkeyes 17-12 on Saturday night, its first win over a ranked opponent this season.

No. 8 Badgers post 4th shutout in 38-0 win over Spartans

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said he knew the Spartans were going to have to stop Jonathan Taylor if they were going to have any shot at stealing a win at No. 8 Wisconsin on Saturday.

The Spartans' defense limited Taylor to just 80 yards on 26 carries, marking the first time this season the Heisman Trophy hopeful was held under 100.

But Michigan State was held to 149 yards, 30 rushing, and couldn't find any rhythm as the Spartans fell to the Badgers 38-0.

No. 16 Michigan needs late surge to hold off Illinois 42-25

A four-touchdown lead had been whittled to three points, and No. 16 Michigan needed a response to Illinois' 25 consecutive points.

Shea Patterson and the Wolverines put together a long touchdown drive and the Michigan defense forced two turnovers in a late surge to hold off Illinois 42-25 on Saturday.

Clifford's 4 TDs lead No. 7 Penn State over No. 16 Michigan

After a deep ball bounced off his hands, KJ Hamler pulled Sean Clifford aside and told his quarterback he owed him one.

It didn't take long for Hamler to make it up to him.

The speedy wideout burned the Michigan secondary two quarters later and hauled in a perfectly thrown 53-yard touchdown pass to help propel No. 7 Penn State to a 28-21 win over No. 16 Michigan on Saturday.

Smith runs for 2 TDs, No. 20 Minnesota routs Rutgers 42-7

No. 20 Minnesota won its first game as a ranked team in five years and suddenly it has the lead in the West Division and a clear path to the Big Ten title game .

It all fell into place Saturday as Rodney Smith ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns and the Gophers improved to 7-0 for the first time since winning the national title in 1960 with a 42-7 victory over Rutgers on Saturday.

No. 23 Iowa holds off Purdue 26-20

Iowa's defense might be as good as any in America.

The Hawkeyes' offense is lagging way behind though, and that inconsistency is threatening to submarine their season.

Mekhi Sargent ran for a 14-yard score with 2:16 left and 23rd-ranked Iowa held off Purdue 26-20 on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Michigan's rout in the rain dashes Notre Dame's playoff hopes

Jim Harbaugh desperately needed a significant victory to change the conversation, at least temporarily, about the job he's doing at Michigan.

    The Wolverines delivered.

Zach Charbonnet ran for two touchdowns in the first half, and Shea Patterson threw for two scores in the second half, helping No. 19 Michigan rout No. 8 Notre Dame 45-14 in driving rain on Saturday.

No. 6 Penn State handles Michigan State 28-7

Pat Freiermuth scored the game's first two touchdowns.

Turned out that was all No. 6 Penn State really needed against Michigan State's anemic offense.

Freiermuth and the Nittany Lions would add more points later, and unbeaten Penn State beat the Spartans 28-7 on Saturday. Sean Clifford threw four touchdown passes on a rainy day, and the Nittany Lions avenged close losses to Michigan State from each of the past two seasons.

No. 20 Iowa blanks Northwestern 20-0

For Iowa's defense, the goal is the same every week -- dominate.

The 20th-ranked Hawkeyes accomplished their mission on Saturday, allowing just 202 yards in a 20-0 rout of Northwestern. The Wildcats' deepest advance into Iowa territory was the 28-yard line late in the third quarter.
